Police Investigate Possible Theft Of State Dems Funds

The Star's Jon Murray and Vic Ryckaert are reporting an Indianapolis police investigation into $73,000 in missing funds from the Indiana Democratic Party. The reported theft may have been accomplished through unauthorized credit card charges. The story reads:

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating the embezzlement of $73,000 from the Indiana Democratic Party.

Party officials discovered an unauthorized credit card last month that had been used for nearly two years and billed automatically from a party account, said Mary Chandler, general counsel for the state party. No charges have been filed, but a police report was written today by Detective Gerald Rieger. It mentions Kim Bostic, the former comptroller responsible for the party's internal accounting.

Bostic stopped working for the party during the third week of January, Chandler said, and her departure was "mutually agreeable."

The unauthorized credit card was discovered after Bostic's employment ended, Chandler said.

An audit determined that $94,000 had been charged to the card since February 2005, Chandler said. Of that, she said, about $73,000 in charges were unrelated to the party.

A phone message left this afternoon for Marcel Pratt, Bostic's attorney, has not yet been returned.

You may recall Marion Co. Prosecutor Carl Brizzi (R) prosecuted staffer Brad Hiller for embezzling more than a $100,000 from the Indiana Republican Senate Majority Campaign Committee. Hiller worked as a lobbyist for Bose Treacy when the missing funds were discovered. He served a prison sentence after pleading guilty.

Global warming or Bush. One of the two has to be responsible. Either way, Democrats have to raise taxes now.

Notify Senator Glen Howard! Perhaps he can get the police report changed...

Give 'em two days and they'll have blamed it on Carl Brizzi for being too soft on crime.

I guess people are watching their own funds too closely and the Dems have resorted to stealing from themselves.
Maybe Mrs. Wagoner knows who did this terrible crime.
She'll just blame it on Brizzi.
73,000.00 hurts, doesn't it. How many vote would that have bought for Bart?

With a local campaign warchest of well over $2,000,000 I doubt if Peterson is crippled by a loss of $73,000 by the State party. Of course, to penniless Marion County Republicans $73,000 is a hugumongous figure - that's way more than Eric Dickerson spent on his entire losing campaign!

Wilson, you are one tenacious hoot!

Jen won't talk about it. Says the cops told the party (DEM) to keep mum...we know who controls TDW now. Tully was right, the democrat party is in charge of that blog.

Anon 7:47--DOUBLE DUH! Jen Wagner works for the Democratic party, her blog is totally partisan, and she freely admits it. What exactly is your point?

"the democrat party is in charge of that blog."

Jeff my point is stated above. Jen is in denial. Tully commented the same idea last week.

Several Democratic entities have offices at One North Capitol - it's likely all employees working in that suite on the 2nd floor have been enjoined from discussing this matter in public. Jen Wagner's personal blog would thus be covered too.

Matt Tully may assume anything he wishes but that doesn't make it so! We all know how much the anonymous nobodies in here trust Tully, don't we now?

Give the state party credit for its willingness to pursue a case against one of its own high-level staffers. I don't see anyone blaming anyone here other than the party responsible for the misdeeds.

anon 7:47, It's no secret Jen is the party's communications director. You can hardly expect her to be blogging about it at TDW while the investigation is still underway.

Sticky fingers in the Democratic party? I am sure the police report will be changed to point fingers at the Republicans.

Kinda like the Watergate break-in, huh?

Didn't say he’s trustworthy, just said he was right this time.

7:47 - You think that's a big news flash that TDW is controlled by Democrats? The writer is the party's communications director, and she herself characterizes her blog as partisan.

Hey, what's the chances of this landing in Marcel Pratt's wife's court? Wouldn't that be a hoot?

"7:47 - You think that's a big news flash that TDW is controlled by Democrats?"

The point is, The party does control the content. If you read her blog she deigned any control from the party.
