Ball State Puts Flood Damage Estimate At $126 Million

Someone at Ball State University is projecting damages from The Great Flood of 2008 at $126 million. Gov. Daniels says that estimate is "probably as good a number as we've got right now." He added, however, that the state isn't offering its own damage estimate just yet. I said when the flood first hit this weekend that damages would likely exceed $1 billion. I still think I'm closer than the Ball State estimate, although I hope they're right and I'm wrong. If you add up all the crop damage, personal property damage and road, bridge, utility and infrastructure damages, not to mention lost profits and wages from businesses forced to close temporarily or indefinitely, the number has to be greater than $126 million.
