Feds Probing IMPD

WTHR's Steve Jefferson picks up on a major federal grand jury investigation underway involving the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Jefferson reports:

As a Metro police officer was arraigned on a rape charge Monday, Eyewitness News has learned IMPD is bracing for the outcome of another investigation into officer conduct. The new investigation involves a federal grand jury investigation into the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department underway right now. Sources close to the investigation won't say exactly what kind of officer conduct they are looking into, but that same source characterized the grand jury investigation as huge. There is no word on how many or which officers are the target of the investigation.

The grand jury investigation is "huge." Get that?

It is sooo very sad when the IMPD gets an article in the World Net Daily, http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=73358 and TalkLeft http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/8/25/132549/699.

Talk about bad press.

I know a guy who ticked off an city cop and suddenly found himself followed by cops every time he got behind the wheel. He ended up with 4 DUIs in a very short period of time. Only one of the four charges are backed by a chemical test. During the last arrest they drove him around for an hour and tried to stick his head through a windshield before he was brought in.

The person accused the cops of misconduct and threatened to sue. Two years later he's still being held in jail without ever being tried on the charges. He has a speedy trial motion on 3 of the 4 cases. The judge ignores it as well as the other time deadlines of Criminal Rule 4. On one case alone he has had 24 pre-trials!!!

Because of this and several other major procedural flaws, the Prosecutor's Office has to know they they have no chance of having any conviction upheld on appeal. Yet they continue with the cases. They are perfectly content on leaving this poor guy in jail without a trial.

Oh, did I forget to mention that the judge is a former cop himself?

Propaganda, started by rumors, backed up by innuendos.
If they investigating, I wonder if they were tipped off by the same people who covered up things for 8 years? How many of these cooked officers have been on the dept for more than 1.5 but less than 8 years?

Why don't the feds look into the real crimes in Indy? Monroe Gray, Vernon Brown, Aaron Haith, Beth White, Bart Peterson, André Carson,et. al...

7th CD, after what the Mayor allowed Bob Grand with regard to the Venture contract, do Republicans really have standing to complain about anything the Democrats have done in this city? That's about as bad as they come.

EVERYONE and I mean everyone needs to be at the CC budget hearing on Sept 8.

They need to take a long deep look at the prosecutor's office also.

Indiana Barrister is saying that pea shakes are investigated. I've never really known either Advance Indiana or Indiana Barrister to be wrong on these types of rumors.

I agree with atrtfuggins on the prosecutors office. Brizzi has been less than honest as a prosecutor.
He is part of the machine that needs it's wheels "greased" from time to time and someone needs to wipe off the excess grease!

melyssa... whats the big deal about the meeting on the 8th?
Pea shakes have been "investigated" for years. Too much $$$$ changing hands for certain people to NOT look the other way!

HFFT you are right about pea shakes. Funny that you would mention it - a bunch of them were just dismissed in court 18 because the cop who got the search warrant had been indicted by the feds.

Bill, Very interesting. Some of us skeptics thought the busts being carried out by IMPD were all a big front to head off the federal investigation. What you just shared confirms my worse suspicions. Hopefully, the feds will nail the people responsible.
