The Uzi is a 9mm pistol caliber weapon designed to be compact SMG for commandos and protection details. A lot if not most LEO&#39;s have abandoned the 9mm for the .40S&amp;W due to 9mm&#39;s perceived poor performance. <br /><br />The AR (5.56x45) and AK (likely 7.62x39 but they can be 5.56x45, 5.45x39, etc) use a intermediate cartridges. These the real deal &quot;assault rifles&quot; designed to be lighter, including the ammunition burden, and capable of automatic fire. The previous generation main battle rifles were too powerful to control under automatic fire.
