He's been less of a an advocate for reduced federal spending than the departing Senator Bayh(D). He's continued support for the inexperienced and ideologically extreme in voting for Justice Kagan's confirmation.

There were people protesting the cost, expansion, and intrusion of goverment during the Bush years, and thousands more in the streets and town halls since the election of President Obama. With due respect to his pursuit of dismantling nuclear arms, I think Senator Lugar is out of touch.

I've never had any doubts about who carried out the attacks on 9/11. What has always bothered me is how so many at the highest levels of our government ignored the warnings from people like John O'Neill, who warned of a plot to carry out a major attack on U.S. soil. The same thing happened in the OKC bombing. Some within the FBI knew in advance of the plans to blow up a federal building and just let it play out.

Lugar is too conservative for my taste, but he's willing to listen and willing to compromise, which makes him better than any other Republican and most Democrats who want the seat.
