I don't agree with what Carson or what Smith said 100%.

But I believe it is true you can't compare a white president being depicted as an ape with a black president being depicted as an ape.

I fully loathed most of what Bush did, but still think its wrong to portrait any president in that way.

Due to our shared American history (some of it very recent with the civil rights movement and still people going out and killing people just because of color) it is more wrong to portrait any African American as an ape.

Don't understand that? Talk to more African Americans.

of course there is racism in Marion County.

The Marion County Coroner was racist for discriminating against whites.

Erika Smith is racist.

Rep Andre Carson is racist for thinking that whites want blacks hanging from trees.

All the blacks who agree with Carson for "telling it like it is" are racist.

And the blacks in Marion County (and, to be fair, pretty much everywhere else) who vote for the black candidate by margins of 95-5 are racist.

The worse documented cases of racial discrimination in this state all occurred at the Marion County Coroner's Office and involved a black official and black employee overtly discriminating against white employees and contractors. These cases have been adjudicated and affirmed by the EEOC in Washington and twice by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Look at how little reporting the Indianapolis Star has done on those cases. The cost to taxpayers has been several million dollars and the person responsible for the discrimination remains in charge of the office to this day being rewarded for her discriminatory conduct. If any white public employee had engaged in anything remotely similar to what this employee was proven to have done in legal proceedings, he or she would have been fired and banned from employment by the county. Do you think Erica Smith or Andre Carson would condemn that public employees' conduct? Absolutely not. They consider her a very good friend. You can protest all you want, Maple Syrup Maven, but Smith and Carson have both demonstrated their complete contempt towards whites in the ugliest possible terms by their words.

The editorial read: "Carson has done a disservice to his district, his state and himself. An apology is in order for his over-the-top rhetoric that should have no place in American political discourse."

My guess is that Smith started playing the race card with the newspaper's management after that editorial appeared in the paper. After Ryerson changed his shorts, he apologized to Smith and said she could write whatever she pleased in her column and he would publish it. In the words of a former columnist for the Star, Ryerson would have never allowed a white reporter to write such an offensive column in the newspaper and give it the promiment play Ryerson gave her column. Just ask Lisa Coffey if you don't believe me.

Gary, Erika Smith wrote the story, the Star editors chose to slap 'guts' in the headline.

Not just that but Smith wrote "had the guts to stand up and say what we've all seen over the last three years." That's beyond editorialization, that projecting her opinion onto the entire population.

The disgrace is a team effort.

I actually have less sympathy for Erika Smith than I do Carson. Carson could at least claim he got caught up in the heat of the moment and said something that was completely false and defamatory. Of course he hasn't apologized yet.

Erika Smith on the other hand had time to reflect on what Carson said and still wrote that it was true. When did any tea party supporting member of Congress suggest they wanted blacks to hang from trees. She should be ashamed of what she said. She not only insults tea part people, but more importantly she insults those who lived through the civil rights struggles and actually did face such things as lynchings.
