There are a lot of valid points that need a thorough investigation...the ROC is primary, then the fire/smoke detector scam.

Thank goodness we have a person with the integrity to stand up to the corruption and uphold the oath of office.

Gary Excellent commentary. Kathleen McLaughlin is just one more self styled "Journalist" in Indianapolis carrying the water for Crony-Capitalism. The Crony-Capitalist bucket is a heavy load and Tully and Erica Smith cannot lift it alone.

I gather the insider deals displayed by the City-Council is preferable to the integrity shown by Christine Scales.

You would think the Mega-Media in this area would be applauding Councilor Scales independence or least author a fair article.

It is vital to the Crony-Capitalist Clique both elected, appointed and those collecting a paycheck for our local McMedia that the nail that stands out is hammered down, by what ever means necessary.

Gary, I am in whole-hearted agreement with your excellent point-by-point analysis of what very much appears to be an intentional IBJ.com hit piece on Councilor Christine Scales. There is very little I can add to your justifiably scathing review of Kathleen McLaughlin's risible attempt at journalistic integrity. McLaughlin exhibits that she falls woefully short of fair, balanced, and impartial authorship. Portrayal of Scales' appearance, her marriage, her husband’s profession, her “gated” community, and her political philosophy are jaw-dropping in that McLaughlin’s descriptions are more editorial than any informative need warrants.

Anyone who has followed the Council proceedings on even a superficial level would understand immediately that McLaughlin completely ignored the facts of many of the issues on which Councilor Scales has taken a stand in favor of the taxpayers. Further, McLaughlin blithely ignored delving into the facts even when Councilor Scales provides avenues and background for further investigative reporting. McLaughlin does excel, however, at passing along snarky comments made by opposition Councilors. Why is it Conservatives are constantly being told they must be “flexible”, they must “make concessions”, and they must “compromise” but the same demands are rarely ever made of Democrats?

I am a voter who is pleased to see a Councilor who refuses to concede her Conservative philosophy. Christine Scales’ Conservatism is inclusive and caring- something voters are constantly lied to as an impossibility. I happen to believe that it is because Councilor Scales lives her social Gospel that she enjoys a breadth and depth of political support from many minority groups the Marion County Republican party needs if it is to survive. Christine Scales draws political support from African American, gay and lesbian [a large voting bloc the local and state Republican party to this day refuses to admit actually exists], blue collar, white collar, Latino, Asian voters… well the list goes on and on. What other Republican enjoys the support of such a diverse electorate? Not many and they know it.

Marion County needs s new Republican Party and Christine Scales is an excellent model to begin the process of cleaning house and initiating the renewal and return to principle the party requires if it is to survive.

Christine Scales is an exemplary Councilor for the people. She would make a superb Mayor of the City of Indianapolis.
