It occurred to me that I may have made an error in my previous blogs. I had neglected to check the NYT's best seller list for paperback nonfiction, and in an effort to be fair, I went to that list expecting to find the titles of the anti-Obama books that were missing from the hardcover list. However, as of today, there are no anti-Obama books on this list, but I did find The Audacity of Hope (ranked 4th) and Dreams From My Father (ranked 7th and has been on this list for a whopping 106 weeks), both written by Barack Obama.

Maybe you can clarify this for me (and I mean that sincerely not sarcastically). Is the Drudge Report projecting that Obama Nation will be the NYT's best seller on Aug. 17, 2008?

Even if that is true, it does not dispel the fact that there are 3 blatantly anti-Bush books on the list with the Washington Post adding yet 1 more to the mix in comparison to 1 quasi-anti-Obama book. This hardly proves that "Anti-Obama Books Fly Off the Bookshelves".

On Aug. 17th, if Obama Nation becomes the #1 seller, your claim will be accurate if you remove the "s" off of "Books".

Just to clarify, nationally published books are part of the "mainstream media," but I don't want to quibble as this is a detail of little importance.

What should be noted is that there are many more anti-Bush and anti-Bush Administration books on the New York Times Best Sellers list (which includes all sales and not just those of Amazon) than there are anti-Obama books. The Dark Side, by Jane Mayer ranks 2nd; What Happened, by Scott McClellan (Bush's former press secretary) ranks 9th; and The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder, by Vincent Bugliosi ranks 15th. 10th ranked The Post-American World, by Fareed Zakaria, though not focused on the Bush Administration in particular, criticizes the way the Iraq War has been handled.

The only anti-Obama book on this list is 6th ranked Fleeced, by Dick Morris, but this book is not exclusively anti-Obama; it is more accurate to say it is anti-big government and levies criticisms against McCain too.

The Washington Post lists Fleeced as 5th on their list, but then again they list The Dark Side 2nd, What Happened 6th, and Goodnight Bush, by Erich Origen & Gan Golan (a parody of a children's book that depicts "a childlike George W. Bush tucked safely away in the confines of his own room with all of the toys he's willfully destroyed, abused, or defaced) 7th. The Post-American World is also on this list ranked 9th.

So there you go. Americans are much more interested in reading about the missteps and deceptions of the Bush Administration than criticisms of Obama.
