It's mentioned in the Crain's article on Don Welsh. At the time, I noted the irony in their hotel being given tens of millions of dollars and then the White's being able to use a foundation to which they can make contributions and take a tax deduction kicking backing this contribution to the ICVA.

There's a White family foundation, a charity, that had a couple million dollars. The foundation 'conveniently' decided that the money should be spent right away - to promote downtown tourism.

My mind is not fully made up about the workers organizing. In favor, I am not a fan of unions today, although once in history they had an important role to play.

When I worked at the Hyatt, I quit over what I felt to be unacceptable employment situation. I probably had more options than a hotel maid.

I think a more effective way for the workers to go after the Hyatt is to damage their brand.

Organizers should plant exposes in the media to show that it is impossible to properly clean and sanitize the volume rooms per day that each housekeeper is required to clean.

Once I was hired to work at the Hyatt as a concierge. Instead when I started I had to set up breakfast buffets. I quit after a month.

And by the way, the downtown Hyatt is absolutely filthy. You see a lot when you are in the employee areas. After what I saw, I would never stay in a Hyatt.

These days I'm sure it is dirtier. I understand they make each maid clean 8 rooms per hour. That's what the hotel workers protests are all about.

Think about how long it takes you to clean one room of your house. Could you clean 8 rooms in one hour?

If you want cooties, stay in these hotels where they spend less than 10 minutes cleaning each room and the staff is treated like slaves.
