Both Garton and Borst had stayed way too long, and needed to go, and a primary was the only effective way to do it.<BR/><BR/>But it wasn't just a couple thousand votes. As I recall, Garton got about 19,000 votes, his opponent about 25,000. Ditto with Borst.<BR/><BR/>Yeah, their replacements are goofs. But it was not an idle exercise. It took a lot of planning and commitment, and Garton/Borst were fools to not recognize it. Republicans in the General Assembly fear him. If you piss Miller off bad enough, he will take you out. Here's how it works:<BR/><BR/>You (the Republican legislator) are in a safe Republican district, you may have even run unopposed or barely opposed in your past races. <BR/><BR/>Miller and his right wing cronies come after you in the low-turnout primaries, not the general election, by convincing his fundamentalist sheeple to go the polls. <BR/><BR/>A no-name with a wallet, Miller's support, and a few congregations of fundies going to the polls can be all it takes in a primary where it may only take a couple of thousand votes to win.<BR/><BR/>If you don't believe me, ask Bob Garton or Larry Borst. Both were veteran state senators who were taken out as described above by Miller-ites (two of the biggest fools in the General Assembly I might add).<BR/><BR/>Do not underestimate the power and influence of Eric I. We need wise men that can see through the muddy gunk of their veil and move the state and nation forward to a more moderate thinking people who accept all people and garner the best from each group for a collectively better life.
