Pete, not really. Any money sent to Mexico for aid is US taxpayers' money & in no way means that Mexico is "paying for" anything. Here's an analogy:

1. You tell me you're going to write me a $100 check. I'm not providing you any services; you are doing it as a gift.
2. I piss you off by doing something, so you say that you are going to reduce the check to $75.
3. I receive and cash the $75 check.

I haven't paid for or expended anything for the $75. I didn't even have a right to $1 of your money, yet I now have $75.

The only flaw in the analogy is that you earn your money the honest way while the US government borrowed it from the Chinese.

Why SHOULD one sovereign pay for the goodies that another wants to purchase? Indiana doesn't have to pay for Kentucky's State Museum. Trump, as usual, was full of crap when he said that he would somehow "force Mexico to pay." for his wall.

And Anon11:18, taxing remittances would require an act of Congress. Trump could not unilaterally impose a tax on them.

Looks like Presidente Fox fell victim to Trump's racist, gringo rhetoric. The promised wall, as if there isn't one now, is nothing but political grandstanding. Border guards are not all lined up on some do not cross line but also patrol 100 miles deep into the US interior checking bus stops, suspicious vehicles, and hotel occupants. One tunnel can defeat a wall no matter how high it is - just ask El Chapo.

Fox is a smart guy. I'm trying to figure out if he is in full meltdown mode or if he did this for effect and, if so why. Trump could easily tax remittances to Mexico to pay for the wall. I think Fox knows it and is trying to rally La Raza to defeat him because he knows life is going to be very tough for Mexico if 13 million refugees (most of whom are not even Mexican but merely passed through Mexico to get here) are sent south and the US starts taking a slice of the remittance trade which (according to some sources) are a big source of income to Mexico than oil and gas revenues. I was slow to warm up to Trump but he's brilliant. Nothing sticks because he's aired it all. Nothing that anyone says about him will shock us. The average party line Republican and Democrat have not yet figured it out, but world leaders have and they're scared. Bravo, Mr. Trump. It's about time.
