Sorry, Interested Party, but Democrats liked the fact that the Clintons and the Gores like to smoke pot because Democrats like the drug, they want it legalized and they're standing behind the Senate candidate in Connecticut who has spent years telling stories about serving in Vietnam when he spent the war on student deferments at elitist schools probably smoking a lot of dope. And Barry was very candidate about his drug-using days in his book and they all thought he was The One.

HamiltonGOP, the premise of the article isn't that. These aren't Parks and Rec jobs, or jobs at the State House. these are private companies, likely getting some tax breaks as incentives.

It's that these public-private partnerships are signed on, take the money, then never deliver on the goods. And if the state government doesn't feel like sharing this information with us, it's not likely that anyone will utilize the clawback clause to get our money back.

The whole premise of this article is that its governments responsibility to create jobs. If people would realize that it is the private sector that creates jobs and not government reports like this would get laughed at and these gotcha reporters would be unemployed. I am willing to look past this story because Daniels has been a good Governor who truly believes in free enterprise.

"Jobs" has become the Holy Grail of politicians.

Voters always want more of them. They will more often than not accept the cost of creating them. And best of all, voters can't pin down where the jobs are (or aren't) so there's virtually no chance of being called out as a liar or having nasty campaign ads showing you up for having failed.

It's far and away better than Hoover's 'chicken in every pot and car in every garage' rhetoric because it sounds great and totally intangible when you talk about 'jobs we created.'

And we all know that 'I won't raise taxes' hardly ever works because people can figure that out out pretty easy.

All of this makes you grit your teeth if you're scanning the horizon for the Republican alternative (and boy are we)- but the bar's been dramatically lowered too.

Daniels at least still embraces free enterprise as a cornerstone of our Democratic Republic. From his actions versus his words, he also really believes there is a fiscal reality. That's just getting started. It's an enormous difference in political philosophy he (and probably any Republican candidate) have on President Obama, as reflected in the polling and elections of late in an aroused America.

Does Daniels need to get a grip and publicly concede he went over-the-top on this one, Hell yes. As taxpayers, we'd don't deserve to hear some statistics are "private", yet I can hear them in the political cesspool next door: Illinois. He turned about on the welfare privatization gone amuck, and is at least capable of an about face on this one.

I'm not happy with the IPALCO stock issue either. But for me, if he cleans up on this and isn't sitting on a couple of barnburners, Daniels has got a much, much farther fall before losing a mud-slinging match. He won't get a square deal from mainstream media, but I also don't see a downfall comparable to Ballard - yet.
