The odds of a college basketball player making it to NBA or the step down (Europe) is miniscule compared to playing baseball at either the minor or major league level. It's not like Derek won't have a great degree to fall back on if he doesn't fulfill his dream. I have a buddy who's a basketball junky and knows most of the fathers and sons of some of the best high school players in Indy. All of these kids and their dad's can talk about is when my son makes it big in the NBA. It's good to dream but a back up plan is a necessity in sports. That said CONGRATULATIONS to Derek!
