If you replace a few words here, a few peoples' names there, and some facts and figures over there, you have pretty close to what happened to six of my friends/co-workers and me at DWD. Although we were not nearly as important as Mr. Moldthan was, we and many others at DWD have repeatedly pointed-out errors and financial improprieties. Our reward was to be fired for it. DWD and FSSA are not in the business of improving anything -- only in the business of improving their rich, pathetic lots in life doing their menial government jobs until some big-time business desperately needs a politcally-connected fool to come work for them. DWD and FSSA appear to both have been run the same way -- straight into the ground full-speed by people who could care less that what they are doing is affecting millions of people.

Sure, welfare and unemployment may be politically unpleasant for many "conservative" Republicans to deal with (and the folks running DWD and FSSA don't seem to care about these low-level citizens anyways), but the same idiots running these agencies don't really realize what their ineptness is doing to businesses (it's going to kill them with all the unemployment problems because their taxes will skyrocket next year) and to taxpayers in general (welfare and unemployment fraud do affect us taxpayers, and badly so).

I can guarantee you these amount of fraud and overpayments are not 1/10 of the total amount of fraud/overpayments NOT caught by DWD every year.

Great job, Gary. Very painful to read about if you are remotely conservative. I hope the Governor tackles this, the jobs statistics issues, and whatever else with an earnest desire to have more attention-to-detail from SOMEBODY. It's not just him. It's obviously a common thread to government at all levels for all issues: lack of Gulf oil well inspections, lack of adult supervision on school buses, lack of anybody on the Library board that knows anything about construction supervision- you name it.

Nonetheless, unless you're sincerely ready to abdicate free enterprise capitalism, reduced spending, and greater Constitutional adherence- the bar has been considerably lowered: Government is now perceived as the engine of economic recovery itself, instead of the sector that truly provides the jobs, and the confidence, and the tax revenue that FUNDS the government: BUSINESS.

I think FSSA is an ashtray afire, compared to our whole country ablaze. I'd take my chances with an imperfect Governor Daniels or anybody this side of Sarah Palin in 2012, compared to reelecting a President that seems to be hosing with gasoline instead of water.

Wow, great reort, Gary! This is yet another example of a governor whose actions don't measure up to his words or promises. Taxpayers who alerted the governor about the corrupt multi-million dollar (and potentially billion dollar) no-bid roofing scheme for schools in Indiana, we were ignored. Excellent post. I have always said supervision of the agencies, or lack thereof, is Daniels' weakness. He seems to lack any interest in how state agencies are run. If he did, Mitch Roob wouldn't have a job.
