How could two eyewitnesses to the alleged crime not be deposed until one week before trial. First, the orginal charges were thrown out because they couldn't find the paperwork appointing the special prosecutor. Months go by before he refiles the charges. Months more pass by and then Haith demands a speedy trial and the special prosecutor isn't prepared for trial? I just watched the TV news clips and the statements Gibson gave to the media. Next to him were Monroe Gray and other blacks, some wearing shades on a cloudy day. It struck me that there is some real serious corruption going on with one ethnic group completely above the law and now in complete control of Marion County.<BR/>Brizzi? What's there to say about Brizzi? He is totally independent of the elected prosecutor and calls his own shots. To somehow blame Carl Brizzi for the performance of a special prosecutor from another county is totally off base. It's been my experience that special prosecutors that are brought in due to a local prosecutor's conflict often give the case they are appointed to handle short shrift. Think about it: they are from outside the county so they have no real stake in the outcome and they find themselves being required to travel back and forth from their regular county to attend hearings, depositions, etc. All while their regular duties back home are being neglected. It's no wonder that a person that finds himself in the position of special prosecutor would only want to spend several days of his life in a jury trial miles from home if he has a dead-bang winner. Since the Gipson case is clearly a he said/she said/they said pissing match it does not qualify as a dead-bang winner, altho it appears to be a winnable case. The bigger question is why did the special prosecutor file the charges in the first place if he didn't think it was a winnable case? It's not like there wasn't plenty of time to investigate the matter prior to the filing of charges. What is different now than when the case was filed? To back down now is to basically say that I don't believe my own witnesses any more. Either that, or I didn't properly investigate this in the first place.
