He didn't rely on it 'in court' but pre-filing of charges is a different question. Steve, Zimmerman did not use Florida's "Stand your ground" as a defense. This would have required him to make a case that it was self-defense in front of a judge alone, who would then decide if a trial was needed. Zimmerman waived his right for doing this.

I do find the idea that Zimmerman planned to use "stand your ground" as part of some intention to shoot Martin, to be highly speculative and reprehensible. This idea has no basis in any testimony or statements in the case, aside from being part of a criminal justice class that Zimmerman attended.

The bottom line is that there is nothing unique about this case. It happens all the time. The law books and newspapers are filled with cases very similar to this case with the very same outcome. The media doesn't talk about those cases. This kid isn't worthy of being made some victim in a civil rights movement. He was your garden variety street thug. He had no respect for other people. He had been in trouble on numerous occasions. He had been found in possession of women's jewelry and a flat-headed screw driver he used for fencing the items. Why was he stealing? Likely to pay for the gold teeth he was accumulating in his mouth to add to the tattoos and other necessities for being a bad boy. He had assaulted a school teacher and been kicked out of school for fighting. He abused pot and a drug concocted from mixing soda drinks with Robitussin. He talked all these things proudly in his text messages, which showed the person he was, not the false narrative now portrayed by his greedy, selfish parents and the media. If his mother loved him so much, why did she kick him out of the house? His father loved him so much that he didn't even wonder why he didn't come home the night of the shooting. Yeah, did you know that? He went out partying that night with friends and didn't even notice Trayvon never came home that night. He didn't know until the night day his son had been killed, even though most of the people in the neighborhood knew a shooting death had occurred. Trayvon was nothing more than a lottery ticket the parents are now punching to collect as much money from as they can possibly bilk by retelling lies about what happened. It's one of the most sickening things I've ever seen, but it doesn't surprise me. It's typical life in America under Obama, who has done more to divide this country than any president in modern history.

If Zimmerman was aware of 'stand your ground' and it influenced his behavior then "stand your ground" was 'involved' in creating the events that created the case. "Stand your ground' may not have been in the 'court case' true enough but a nuanced analysis of the events 'in toto' makes it seem to have been a factor if you step away from the courtroom and into the street the evening of the killing. From what I've read it seems that Zimmerman was aware of and/or thinking about 'stand your ground'. A fair argument would distinguish the applied in the 'court' as different from 'applied in the street' and most of the time people spend in the street. Regardless violent death results when retards [morons if you will] collide and one moron has a gun.
