Right now it is a joke. Local goverment has a responsilbiliuty to provide public transit in this manner. <br /><br /><br />As for mass transit, I agree that it would spur economic development along any routes. I always wondered why Union Station was not made a hub for rail transit in any plans. Maybe I missed it. You could also make the City Market a stop which would also answer the contant questions over its future.<br /><br />Anyhow, rail won&#39;t happen. Maybe never will. So I dont see the big deal with bus rapid transit. Sure it will cost some money. D&#39;uh.<br /><br />Spend it. Run the three lines. Adjust them as necessary. The advantage of buses is that they dont cost as much as rail, and if they dont work, you can pull the plug easily.<br /><br />This was done with the commuter line to and from Greenwood a couple years ago. It didnt attract ridership, and was discontinued. Done and Done.<br /><br />The Carmel line started in 2003 and still runs today. Prolly been tweaked along the way, too.<br /><br />So start BRT asap. It would be a good thing and oppositioon to even THAT borders on irrational hysterics. The routes can be changed as needed and if they dont work they can just stop. <br /><br />As for me, I would love for bus routes to be increased.
