Ditto Baron Hill. They're vulnerable freshman Democrats from conservative districts. No doubt they checked with the House leaderhsip, and determined the bill would pass without their votes.<BR/><BR/>In the end, sadly, it's much more important that Joe and Brad are in Congress, and voting correctly 80-90% of the time, than not there at all. It's the sad reality of politics. I know for a fact Joe wanted to vote for this. Not sure about Brad E.'s intentions...<BR/><BR/>Alas, sometimes, you cannot vote for everything you want, if you intend to come back next term.<BR/><BR/>And before anyone gets all Pollyanna on me, it's the real truth. In a presidential election year, Brad and Joe will have a tougher time winning than they did last time. They don't need to poke sharp sticks in the eye of their districts.<BR/><BR/>The political hay has already been made on this tough issue; Bush will veto it, and his veto will be sustained by 15-25 votes. The ONLY thing these bigots have objected to in this legislation are the words "sexual-orientation" and "gender identity". Great that the house passed it regardless of the freshman dems pandering to their conservative base. I know for a fact that GLBT worked to help get Donnelly elected. What a slap in the face.
