I totally agree when Budweiser wanted to inhabit the former RCA site. I.W.U. ran them off, but there has been a liquor store on the same corner which baffeled me... I'm just glad that there is finally a corp. Or any business for that matter that is coming back to town... I am from Marion and love it here and will probably bd here for the rest of my life and I recon we will see if it lasts or closes its doors after a year or two... this city has a large amount of small businesses and in my eyes the federal government should be helping them out just like they do big business... I guess only time will tell in this particurlar situation...

I forgot to say Thank You for such a well written article! I'm really glad that the truth is coming out.

If I were Mayor of Marion (or many other Post Industrial Mid-West Cities), I would propose to use the old RCA Plant, or similar facilities like this:

1. Mobile Electronic App/Devices made there. Like Apps that have attachments for taking your Blood Pressure for example.

2. Indoor Hydroponics growing crops for the city year round.

3. Hemp/Marijuana Processing. You can make almost anything out of hemp. Just ask George Washington. And it grows great around there (Napanee).
Then when Marijuana is legal grow/process it there.

4. Electric Bikes and Small Cars.

5. Recycle everything and make new things out of old furniture, appliances, etc... Sell the new items locally and online.

6. Split it up for Start up Companies like, mobile apps, app/devices, electric bikes, recycled goods ...

Have each County grow diverse crops and local meat.

I grew up in the Chicago area, back when Daley "The Elder" was in charge. I had a minor involvement in politics back then. (I had friends and relatives who were involved in politics.)

What I learned was you needed a "Sponsor" if you were going any where in politics, if you wanted a political appointee job, help with zoning, a liquor license, or have your company obtain contracts with the State, County, or City.

The "Sponsor" was of course politically connected one way or another. The Sponsor was your point man, he got you in the front door. The expectation was, you scratch my back I will scratch yours.

How does a California Businessman get access to the State of Indiana and the City of Marion?? Someone greased the wheels.

Marion deserves much better. I used to drive by the RCA Plant (remember RCA, forget Thompson!) every day and was a source of great paying jobs, and pride for the city.

I would tell everyone, yes, Marion is where almost all the Televisions are made! Probably the one in your home.

Then the Corporations dumped us for China and Mexico, thanks to the Democrats (WTF, Nafta, bringing in Millions of Illegal Immigrants) and Republicans, using these same TV's to fool us all and trample on our Constitution to boot.

That's the real story for me. Bring back our pride and rights.
