Some one called in a favor so she can pretend that she has silenced her critics. Everyone who has any sense knows that these government grants are the middle- and upper middle-classes version of "government cheese." They will always chase after the "cheese" until they they cross the wrong person; then the gig is up. She decided not to run because of the contracts that Ballard awards her husband's company for printing. She also realized that she had lost the support of the PCs in her district and did not want to suffer a slating convention loss.
