Fifty Shades Of IMPD?

Did BDSM activity inside the home of an IMPD officer go too far this past weekend? Sources tell Advance Indiana a young man was found dead at a police officer's home this past weekend inside of a cage bound and wearing a chloroform mask, described as a bondage scene straight out a a hardcore gay movie. Advance Indiana scoured local news reports for any death investigations but could find no mention of one similar to the one that's been the talk of much gossip within the department this week. Perhaps our crack local news media could impose upon Public Safety Director Troy Riggs and IMPD Chief Rick Hite, who are attending a meeting in Washington this week at the White House on transparency in policing to get some answers. Hopefully, it won't take six months before we hear something like the recent arrest of IMPD officer Justin Beaton for allegedly attempting to kill his live-in girlfriend.

Mr. 501 Eagle Gregory Slaven (Photo courtesy of 501 Eagle)UPDATE: I arrived at my office building this morning to find IMPD Chief Hite and two of his fellow officers immersed in conversation in the building's lobby outside the Sunrise Cafe. What are the odds?

The Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed to Advance Indiana that 34-year old Aaron D Barnes' body was recovered from a home in Camby on Sunday, April 5. The address at which the body was recovered in the 8600 block of Ingalls Lane, is listed as owned by Gregory A. Slaven according to Marion County Assessor's property tax records for the home. Slaven's name appears in numerous past news reports and court records as an IMPD officer. A determination of the cause of Barnes' death is still pending. Past court records list Barnes as residing at the same address as Slaven. An observant reader points us to Barnes' Facebook site, where he goes by the name Aaron Slaven. The commenter says Slaven and Barnes were married. Here's Barnes' last Facebook post:

True Charlie Brown

The website, Great Lakes Den, identifies Gregory Slaven as the winner of the Mr. 501 Eagle competition in January 2014 at the 501 Eagle Bar in the 400 block of North College, a gay leather bar that has been a fixture in Indianapolis' gay community for decades. Slaven has a Facebook site (NSFW) for his Mr. 501 Eagle title where he describes himself as a "public figure." In a Facebook post Slaven made on April 1, he shared a link on how to send a penis cake to the homophobic governor of Indiana in reference to Gov. Mike Pence signing Indiana's RFRA legislation into law, which was characterized by the media as intentionally discriminatory towards gays.

Slaven posted on his Facebook site that he was sent in for drug and alcohol testing on April 8, which was three days after Aaron's body was discovered. Slaven's Mr. 501 Eagle Facebook site has been disabled. He appears to be in a relationship with another submissive, who goes by the name "Steve Slaven."

At least one state is trying to get a cop dead.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/08/us/south-carolina-officer-is-charged-with-murder-in-black-mans-death.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&module=a-lede-package-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=1

What happened in South Carolina happens every day; we just don't have video of it, so cops get away with murder, and the Republicans cover for the cops.

Is everyone starting to get the picture? Normal, mentally healthy people don't become cops.

Not any more.

What an American police officer is today is a really sick thing.

American Cops Just Killed More People in March than the UK Did in the Entire 20th Century

http://thefreethoughtproject.com/american-cops-killed-people-month-march-uk-entire-20th-century/

Whenever you see a cop, start filming. It may not keep you alive, but it may let your state stick a needle in the cop.

Sharpton may be onto something when he calls for nationalizing the police. A nationalized police would almost certainly be better than what we have now.

Gary R. Welsh said...

I don't think it's fair to ever over-generalize about any group of people, including police officers. There are serious problems among police agencies across the country. I attribute the problem to the over-militarization of police departments, which are heavily populated with military veterans who receive an entirely different type of training that is often ill-suited for civilian policing.

Eric Morris said...

Anon 810, I am on your side but also agree with Gary regarding over-generalization. I assume in a free market system of policing, where you or your insurance company procure actual protective or security services, rather than the hyper-militarized armed revenue enforecrment agents of the state, many of the "good" cops in the bad system would be the highest paid and most sought after. The dregs would be fired more easily in a free system.

WHAT! And there is not ONE credible news report on this?
Where is everyone? Too busy sniffing around L'il Greg and Hogsett for crumbs on their next big moves?

Your blog post is the first I've heard on this matter and I consider that I keep myself abreast of local news.

Real information critical analysis is why upon rising- and throughout the day until retiring- I regularly go to Advance Indiana. The only thing I stream from local media is the weather outlook, that's it.

Another IMPD scandal Hite works to keep under wraps.... this City has been turned into a sewer by career Democrats and Republicans hell-bent on cranking out their money-making deals for which County residents pay.

Anonymous said...

McQuaid, Rinehart, Jefferson and the rest of the media lapdogs are too busy licking Riggs and Hite's boots to report on anything like this.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:47, don't insult the sewers.

Anonymous said...

Gary, you can contact the Marion Co Coroner's office and request all the deaths that have been reported to them. 317-327-4744.

Anonymous said...

the deceased and Officer Slaven were actually married. The deceased is aka Aaron Slaven.

Check out his facebook page. It's always a little sad reading the last post before someone dies. The photo of the younger slaven with a chain around his neck isn't so favorable.

Anonymous said...

His obituary was referenced in the IBJ. He passed on Sunday April 5. He lived with Officer Slaven in Camby. His parents are from Greenwood and he has brothers in Whiteland. Officer Slaven may be one of the policemen who own the 501.

Gary R. Welsh said...

Anon. 11:35. Thanks for the suggestion. The Coroner's Office, as you can see, was quite helpful. IMPD's public information officers refuse to respond to my requests for information. I've been blacklisted, which I wear like a badge of honor.

Anonymous said...

I don't care what people do in their bedrooms, but I'm a bit taken aback the officer would post such graphic images of himself on the internet. Are there no rules pertaining to a police officer's public conduct? I wish you had warned me before I clicked on the link.

Anonymous said...

Nobody knows anything down at the 501. Even the regulars have been kept in the dark. Its all very hush hush; strange because everybody knew the "boy". The only thing regulars heard was that the boyfriend was denied the right to claim the body, purportedly because they were not legally married.

Anonymous said...

I'm with 4:19! What kind of a police department do we have? Have they no standard of decency for their members?

Posting those pictures in a public forum and advocating sending the Governor of The State cakes shaped like penis is just immoral behavior that goes beyond disgusting. How can they appoint such a person a police officer?

How can he be effective given the publicity of his abhorrent behavior.

This is not becoming of The Public Trust.

Anonymous said...

Now I hear it may have been a theater piece gone wrong. Apparently in one show they did, perhaps as entertainment during the Mr. 501 contest, Aaron lay in a coffin on stage while being mourned by his partner, and a woman goes over and removes his leather dog collar, and symbolically hands it to his partner. I didn't see it. But the bar was packed, so a lot of people did, and it was part of the evening show and leather man contest, usually tongue in cheek and all in good fun.

c. roger csee said...

I guess Hite & Obama share the definition of "transparancy."

Anonymous said...

Aaron is dead at 34. I held his cold hand today. Funeral tomorrow. He was not married. Family is crushed. There are no answers yet. If in fact this monster harmed Aaron he will be a prison BI@@@. Nobody who preys on young people abuses, manipulates, torchers them will get away with it regardless of their "day job". Justice will be served, then he can burn in hell for eternity. He choose the wrong man to kill. The city is keeping it HUSH, but the top is about to blow off.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if there will be an investigation?

IMPD did everything possible in an attempt to get David Bisard off the hook--even to the detriment of their reputation.

Btw,whatever happened wrt Owensby's son getting busted for stealing evidence from IMPD's evidence room?

Anonymous said...

This is a fascinating story on so many levels. Why am I only reading about it on this blog? Aren't there any investigative reporters left in your city?

Anonymous said...

IMPD was transparent PRIOR to Frank G. Straub (Thanks, Ballard!)

The NYC Liberal taught Indy how to manipulate the media, and deny public records that were previously provided...

He imposed an expensive and ineffective reporting system on the Police, requiring more police because of its inefficiency...but never mind the outrageous waste of money on the small town reporting system, he also took away the officer's dictation system that made them the most efficient in the USA!

Look at what's happened. Look at Ballard's failure! Frank G. Straub caused this so the "NY Way" of pay-to-play, cover-up, control of media, can be here.

Anonymous said...

One more thing. I can't help but wonder the reason for keeping this hush. Could it be possible this particular cop has been doing things to runaways he comes in contact with during his police work?

Plus,if the cop is a partner in a business with a liquor license, will the business now be scrutinized?

Gary R. Welsh said...

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe Slaven has an ownership interest in the 501. I thought it had been bought by a woman a few years ago. Law enforcement officials aren't allowed to own an interest in a liquor license in Indiana unless you're former Marion Co. Prosecutor Carl Brizzi, then an exception will be carved out for you in the law.

Anonymous said...

Wow anon...you have serious mental issues. I advise you to seek help immediately...if you can get past the black helicopters following you.

Anonymous said...

I think Tom and Margie own the bar now which they purchased from a cop who moved away. And I think Tom is a retired police officer. The wife is a fixture in the bar and I hear they are both very well liked "parental" types who care deeply for their regulars and try to foster a family atmosphere, which is the atmosphere of the 501. Rumors are flying about what actually happened to Aaron, but real facts are hard to come by. I suspect the funeral will be sad, attended by a lot of people, and that people will be trying to ascertain the truth.

Anonymous said...

yes you are right there is not one credible news report on this because once again the police are trying to cover up one of their own have done I am a friend of Aarons and this story is true I do not have a problem with gay people or anything but people go too far. there is a way to do everything but acting like you are above a person and that you own a person is no way to display love and it is not constituted as a marriage in the eyes of God people who are married do not have sex with other individuals

Anonymous said...

This report is very true and yes there is not one for the news report on this because once again the police are trying to cover up for one of its own I am good friend of this young man and he deserves justice. I have nothing against people that are gay but some stuff has been taken to for how do you say that you love someone and consider yourself above them and how do you marry someone and have sex with other people that does not constitute a marriage in God's eyes I am saying all this to say people cannot continue to take God's Words and chop them up and screw them the way they want to make a fit their life

Anonymous said...

The story I've heard was that Aaron had been doing this alone and died from it. Slaven supposedly came home and found Aaron dead. Details aren't being released probably because this is a suicide investigation.

Anonymous said...

Nope....nothing wrong with these people. Perfectly normal behavior. (that can't be discussed publicly)

Anonymous said...

What happened was a tragic accident and not a murder. i see a lot of gay bashing and judgemental assholes here. These were grown men doing consensual activities. Who cares if one wanted to wear a collar or chains and submit to the other. That's his choice. Who says you can't be married and still date other people so long as every one involved is aware and consents, much better than having secret affairs. It's not your place to judge.

Anonymous said...

Exactly which people are you referring to?gay people? Because straight people do these activities too. Cops? Because being a cop means you can't have a kinky sex life. If i had to guess you are probably one of those republican types that bashes the gay community while sucking cock when your wife is away.

Anonymous said...

Nothing to see here. IMPD is transparent as Hillary Clinton or Obama.

A public official has the right to a private life, but private stops at the internet...then it's public. Those pics on the internet reflect an image that brings The City into disrepute. Nobody worthy of the honor and respect of the community who is appointed as a Police Officer should be posting such abhorrent pictures on public forums or appear in public places in that manner.

Would you see the CEO of Apple in similar public photos, making similar public appearances?

It is unbecoming.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:03: Yes being an Officer of the City or an Executive of a corporation means you are the embodiment of that organization and your public persona is a reflection on the organization.

NO! They may not present themselves in public in that manner.

Anonymous said...

I was going to ask if the officer worked at a strip club. Wherever those pictures were taken, he's wearing fewer clothes than the girls I've seen dancing on stage at strip clubs. Can a patron walk around a bar in Indianapolis butt naked without running afoul of public decency laws?

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:59 I ask you to explain your rationalization: "Who cares if one wanted to wear a collar or chains and submit to the other. That's his choice. Who says you can't be married and still date other people so long as every one involved is aware and consents, much better than having secret affairs. It's not your place to judge."

Why is somebody dead?

Mike said...

3:59...I doubt Aaron was "consensual " to his death. Thus the need for an investigation. In my marriage my wife and I vowed to behold each other and to forsake all others, I did this legally and in church and in front of witnesses. Just because you are the loudest doesn't make you right. Their sadistic activity is dangerous and it may have got someone killed.

Anonymous said...

There's nothing gay going on in hell.

the last time I checked adultery did not go hand in hand in marriage so if someone commits adultery whether it be with their spouse or not they should not be married and opinions are like assholes we all have them and all I'm doing is voicing my opinion and if you have a problem with that so what with that being said whether he died at his own hands or at Greg's hands I believe that it is all because of the lifestyle in which they were living. it is a fact not a judgment. it is a fact that some of their lifestyles practices are inhumane

Anonymous said...

What a story, but Officer Slaven was working all night in downtown Indianapolis and came home around 7:00 am to find his partner sitting up in the bed, not in a cage or anything.

Anonymous said...

Really sad, but Officer Slaven was working at his part-time job downtown and got home around 7:00 am to find his partner had died in their bed from huffing.

Gary R. Welsh said...

IMPD's decision to shroud Aaron's death investigation in mystery has done neither the department nor Officer Slaven any favors. Transparency is just a cliche Riggs and Hite toss around for public consumption, but we repeatedly see a lack of transparency from the department every time there is an incident involving one of their own officers. This only fuels public distrust of the department.

mavido79 said...

Let's look at the facts of this situation.
Fact--Officer Slaven and Aaron were in a consensual power exchange relationship.
Fact--Officer Slaven was at work when Aaron died.
Fact--Aaron chose to engage in a scene without anyone there... something many others have done (David Carradine ring a bell??) It was a tragic choice but it was Aaron's.
Fact--Officer Slaven has worked hard to educate the local kink community about safe play practices but has no control over anyone's actions but his own.
Fact--Officer Slaven is an honorable man and a commendable IMPD officer who does not deserve the slander you're subjecting him to.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, let's look at the facts.

Fact: Officer Slaven posted vulgar images director at this state's governor.
Fact: Officer Slaven has posted graphic and inappropriate images of himself and others on social media.
Fact: Officer Slaven has paraded around butt naked in public places and posted images of himself on social media to prove it.
Fact: Officer Slaven posted numerous images of himself and Aaron on social media depicting Aaron as his sex slave.
Fact: A person was found dead in Officer Slaven's home a week ago and the department has been totally silent about that fact.
Fact: Officer Slaven's conduct in his private life has brought disrepute to the department.
Fact: Officer Slaven's conduct in his private life is at odds with the code of conduct imposed on all police officers whether on or off duty.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:34 said it Best!!!

Slaven has engaged in behavior that renders him unfit to be a Police Officer for this city.

The Chief needs to do what has to be done and terminate his appointment as a Police Officer. There is nothing anyone can say/do to justify his betrayal of the honor and trust bestowed by the community on him as a Police Officer!

Anonymous said...

I'd beg to differ. According to several studies 70% of women cheat and about 72% of men cheat in a marriage. Therefore, adultery in fact goes hand in hand in marriage. That doesn't even factor in the amount of swingers, poly relationships, or open relationships. Guess what your partner is probably cheating on you. You should get checked for an STD.

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure which strip clubs you've been to but clearly you didn't get your money's worth.

Hey Mike i bet your wife would appreciate some sadistic activity. A little spanky spanky maybe? if she's not getting it from you she's probably getting it else where.

Anonymous said...

As i see it he's done nothing wrong other than be a gay man whose partner unintentionally killed himself.

Anonymous said...

You have one valid but very weak argument that he posted vulgar pics in regards to the penis cake pics to the governor.

No other pictures show naked men or graphic images. If Aaron choose to be his "slave" then that's his choice. Let's be real here for a moment. Aaron wanted to live that lifestyle. He wanted to be submissive to Greg. He willing submitted to him. He was not held captive unwillingly. If he wants to walk around on a leash or sleep in a cage that's his choice. You probably have weird or quirky behavior in your own life. Let your freak flag fly.

Anonymous said...

In several pictures he is wearing a jock strap with his bare ass hanging out. sash covers his private parts in another picture. Other than that, the officer doesn't appear "butt naked" in any of the pictures on his Facebook site.

My partner and I spoke to Greg Slaven last night at an event at their favorite bar, on the day he buried his partner, and scores of people were there to comfort him in his loss. The leather/fetish community in Indianapolis is social, not some dark underbelly, and the event was an evening of expensive cocktails and really expensive “outfits” and fun, except for the extreme sadness of the loss of a member of the community. Nobody believes this was a suicide. Nobody believes this had anything whatsoever to do with Greg Slaven, who had been working. It was a tragic accident, probably what they call huffing, which is essentially doing too many drugs during sex, often alone. Aaron had been in a terrible car accident last year. He probably started pain killers then. If he died from prescription drug abuse, he joins a huge and growing club of people that includes Carmel housewives and doctors. The gay community has always had a leather crowd. It is nothing new and more for shock value than anything else. These people were social, well liked, and members of a close knit community of friends. Please move on to something else that shocks you. There is nothing more to see here. The people who care are tending to those who are left behind. The police force you trolls think is being damaged by Greg Slaven is full of heterosexual drunks, drug abusers, wife abusers, intimidators and guys on serious power trips. It could not possibly be embarrassed by a gentle, sweet, gay police officer. Greg Slaven is just a simple, well liked guy. He does his job. Tends his home. Is good to his friends. And loved someone he will never see again. Leave this man alone. Leave his employment alone. Get a life. Christian compassion in Indiana is a myth.

Anon 7:38 comment is hypocritical crap regarding the blackout of this sad story. If the deceased were a member of the clergy attending the RFRA signing this would have been reported from day one. Final four tourney, anti faith propaganda, chamber lies deception? Maybe the anti religious freedom bullies don't look so good if this story is reported as it would normally. This double standard is owned by intolerant thugs hiding behind exceptions they seek to deny others including transparency.

Do you trolls really think there is a news “blackout” about this? The accidental death by prescription overdose of the boyfriend of a gay policeman in Indianapolis? Hardly a news story. Sorry, but we have, literally, thousands of deaths every month in central Indiana that don’t make the evening news. And the reason it won’t make the evening news is because it isn’t newsworthy. Tragic, yes. But no news “blackout.” Put away your tin foil hats and stop looking for the black helicopters. There were deaths in car accidents, and nursing home patients who passed on. All manner of people who died at home and in the hospital. Made the obituaries. But not the evening news. Weird prudes who tracked down racy pictures of the deceased’s boyfriend on the internet would like to make it some scandal about gays. But no. Sorry. Not scandalous. Not newsworthy. Your fury at gays requires some other explanation.

I would like to know what The Chief of Police and Merit Board think of the published public conduct of this Police Officer, who is so proud of his leather and Public Message to The Governor.

Anonymous said...

Oh, the irony of it all. IMPD uses one of its gay cops to work undercover outside the 501 to arrest gay men leaving the bar after they agree to have sex with him for money while Officer Slaven is inside convorting with the customers wearing little more than a jock strap.

Anonymous said...

IMPD waits a few hours to test officers for alcohol. A few days wait to test for drugs should be sufficient for a full exhaleration.

Anonymous said...

Hey, Abdul, I know that has to be you at anon 3:50. Did you finally get your talking points from Ricky? What took so long?

Anonymous said...

The delay in drug testing adds to the suspicion of a COVER-UP!

This appears to be a botched Homicide Investigation. Can it be the Chief is afraid of the throwback?

Transparency has been excluded in this matter. Why?

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:50 just throws out innuendo when the death has not yet been ruled on, nor the investigation complete....of course, there are those who wish this would clear the disgruntled Police Officer, who proudly posts photos of his disgusting behavior and his vulgar disrespect for The Governor.

Bottom line: This guy is not suitable to be a Police Officer and carry the honor and trust required of such an Officer of The City!

Yeah, let's look at the facts.

Fact: Officer Slaven posted vulgar images director at this state's governor.
(And so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death. This is YOUR puritanical opinion about what is vulgar. It is not a fact.)

Fact: Officer Slaven has posted graphic and inappropriate images of himself and others on social media.
(And so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death. This is YOUR puritanical opinion about what is graphic and inappropriate. It is not a fact. )

Fact: Officer Slaven has paraded around butt naked in public places and posted images of himself on social media to prove it.
(So do many other people. And so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death.)

Fact: Officer Slaven posted numerous images of himself and Aaron on social media depicting Aaron as his sex slave.
(Yet again, so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death.)

Fact: A person was found dead in Officer Slaven's home a week ago and the department has been totally silent about that fact.
(Unless the department makes a big case about every individual without exception who is found dead, alone in a home, this fact in and of itself has no value and means nothing. By the way, this is the ONLY actual fact you have presented).

Fact: Officer Slaven's conduct in his private life has brought disrepute to the department.
(And so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death. This is YOUR puritanical opinion about what brings disrepute to the department. It is not a fact. But clearly this is not the case as Officer Slaven's private life conduct was very public, for year, and the department obviously saw no issue with it.)

Fact: Officer Slaven's conduct in his private life is at odds with the code of conduct imposed on all police officers whether on or off duty.
(And so what? This has nothing to do with aaron's death. Once again, this is nothing but YOUR puritanical opinion about what is at adds with the off-duty code of conduct. And once again, clearly this is not the case as Officer Slaven's off-duty private life conduct was very public, for years, and the department obviously saw no issue with it.)

Now it's my turn to present a "fact": The person who wrote the anon 7:37 post clearly had very nasty ulterior motives to post such drivel.

Really tho? Are you a retar? A New World Order Police force is what they're pushing for that's why the media is trying so hard to make cops look bad. Do your homework dude! Conventional medicine and doctors is the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA! Cops don't even make the top ten! In 2015 cops have killed 407 people nationwide, USA population is currently at 320 million! I'd say those are pretty good numbers considering police make thousands of arrest per week. Cops are doing a great job in maintaining peace and order in a land of nuts! Keep pushing for a nationalized police headed by Al Charleton you'll see! Martial law will be implemented.
