Where Is Doris Minton-McNeil?

My City-County Councilor, Doris Minton-McNeil, has not been showing up for council meetings since news reports of a 911 call made by a neighbor accusing her of driving recklessly and almost hitting the woman's daughter and her seven-week-old daughter surfaced late last month. Last night was one of the most important council meetings of the year. Councilors adopted the 2010 City-County budget. Minton-McNeil failed to attend the meeting. Perhaps she has a legitimate excuse for missing important council meetings, but it seems she and the Marion Co. Democratic Party owe it to the people who live in her district to explain her absence. After all, the Democrats appointed her to fill the seat vacated by Andre Carson when he was elected to Congress. She was not elected by the people of her district.

UPDATE: I love it when the news media follows my lead on stories. WRTV asks the same question I asked and learned from Minton-McNeil that she has taken a "leave of absence" from her council duties, but she failed to elaborate on the reason for her leave. Marion Co. Democratic Chairman Ed Treacy claims the councilor had been hospitalized for "high blood pressure" and is now recovering at home. "All I know is that she has been ill and, hopefully, from what she said, she's on the mend," Tracy told WRTV. "I would assume by the next meeting she'll be back."

Abdul commented she was 'under a doctor's care.' Maybe that means she is 'drying out' somewhere.

Even the Kennedy family disclosed Patrick Kennedy's stay in a rehab center to cope with his addictions.

Sanders stated in the CC meeting Monday night that McNeil was under doctors care...most in the room took it to mean that she is in rehab.
If rehab is indeed true McNeil and the democrat party owe the citizens of Indianapolis an apology for her unlawful acts of late. Being a drunk isn't an excuse for dangerous actions.
Is the Marion County Democrat party enabling her? Is the Carson team involved? Will the MCD's insist that she admit fault and apologize to he constituents?
Or will it be business as usual and the democrats will remain mute?

My understanding is that Kent Smith was called up for active duty.

I thought Andre Carson was supposed to be "sitting in" for Doris???

If it is true that Kent Smith has been called up he should step aside like Lance Langsford did until his military assignment is completed.

If Smith is in the reserves he will be called up two weeks every year. I don't think he's been activated nor is deployment in the works.

Not sure, Ernie. I didn't hear a complete explanation.

Leave of absence. Neglect of duty. Corruption. Failure to perform statutory duty.

Is there a difference? This elected official is obviously not fit for duty in the capacity, yet refuses to resign...

Silly me, I thought drinking booze thinned the blood...

Did you see how quick Ed Treacy deflected McNeil’s issues on to Kent Smith...amazing...I didn‘t know that Smith’s call to military duty forced McNeil to drink. Poor girl.
