Religious broadcasters in Indiana are sounding the alarm bells over Governor Mitch Daniel's recent EEO policy announcement, which re-affirmed a state employment policy for non-civilian state employees previously adopted by former Governors O'Bannon and Kernan prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or identity. WFRN, a Christian radio station based in Elkhart, Indiana warned its listeners today about the dangers of this years' old policy. WFRN's news broadcast today complained that Daniel's new hiring policy "gives special rights to homosexuals and cross-dressers." The report cited erroneous claims by Micah Clark of the American Family Association of Indiana that "policies like this could eventually force churches to hire homosexuals and cross-dressers and damage our free speech rights by outlawing people to speak out against sins like homosexuality." Clark urges WFRN listeners to call Governor Daniel's office to speak out against his EEO policy.
Clark's arguments are the same deceitful arguments advanced by Eric Miller and Advance America during their lobbying effort to defeat a civil rights ordinance before the Indianapolis City Council earlier this spring. Neither of the policies would impact on the hiring practices of churches, nor would either of the policies impede upon freedom of speech. What both do is prohibit discrimination against any person on the basis of their sexual orientation or identity. WFRN's unfair reporting on this issue shows the extent to which allies of Eric Miller and Advance America are willing to go to advance their agenda of hate and discrimination against people with whom they differ. Clark's statements about Daniel's EEO policy are outright false and he knows it. Clark and his so-called "Christian" co-horts want unfettered legalized discrimination based upon their bigoted belief system. Because most Americans agree that no one should be discriminated against because of their sexual orientation or identity, Clark and his ilk must resort to lies and scare tactics to advance their bigoted agenda. Apparently Clark believes God's commandment not to bear false witness against thy neighbor is no longer a sin. Or perhaps Clark is just another hypocrite like Eric Miller who believes in doing as I say and not as I do.
Governor Daniels should stand his ground and just say no to these bigots. We cannot tolerate discrimination in any form. We are all created equal in the eyes of God. Any true Christian would already know that Mr. Clark.
