Under a barrage of unfavorable media coverage of her proposal to prohibit gays, lesbians and unmarried persons from using artificial means to become pregnant, fueled largely by bloggers locally and across the nation, Senator Pat Miller, according to the Indianapolis Star, issued a one sentence statement this afternoon saying: “The issue has become more complex than anticipated and will be withdrawn from consideration by the Health Finance Commission.”
Senator Miller’s terse statement does not tell us whether she will introduce the bill in the General Assembly when the legislature reconvenes for its short-session next year. Perhaps she’s caught on to the fact that even Hoosiers will only tolerate just so much of her insatiable appetite to regulate what goes on in the bedroom. As word of her proposal spread throughout the nation, critics were having a field day with her proposal. As one blogger astutely observed of her over-reaching proposal, even the conception of Jesus by the Virgin Mary would have been unlawful in Indiana.
