The second highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) referred to a black Republican Senate candidate this week as "slavishly" supporting the Republican Party. The candidate he was referring to, Lt. Governor Michael Steele (R), is the first African-American to serve as a statewide officeholder in the state of Maryland. He is seeking the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Paul Sarbanes (D), facing off against Rep. Ben Cardin (D). Hoyer is now saying, "I should not have used those words." But this is the same man who referred to Steele as a "token" when he successfully was elected Lt. Governor four years ago.
What is that makes Democrats crack up over the thought of an African-American getting elected to public office as a Republican? Democrats were so out to get Steele earlier this year that they used his social security number to illegally obtain his credit report in search of dirt on him. If that's not bad enough, they've pelted him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance and called him "Uncle Tom" and "Simple Sambo." Despite the Democrats desparate attempts to keep Steele down, it's not working. A Survey USA poll released today shows Steele locked in a dead-even race with Steele, with each candidate getting the support of 46% of likely voters.
The 7th District's own Eric Dickerson (R) has been subjected to one of the dirtiest campaigns in recent Marion County history waged by Rep. Julia Carson (D). This is no accident. He poses a very serious threat to Carson's re-election in spite of what the pols and pundits are telling you. While most long-serving members of Congress typically increase their winning percentage after their first couple of races, Carson's has a hit a wall just under 55% in recent elections.
In a district that is 66% white and about 30% African-American, Carson can little afford to lose any of her base vote in the African-American community. A clear majority of white voters, at least 60%, have consistently cast their votes against Carson and for her Republican opponents in her five previous campaigns for Congress, regardless of how well they've been funded or what kind of campaigns they've run. Dickerson should match that percentage of the white vote again this year. If he can capture one-third of the African-American vote in the 7th District, he will eke out a small victory over Carson. If he can capture 65% of the white vote, he will only need to poll about 25% of the black vote to win. That's why Carson is running scared. And that's why Marion County Democrats are privately cracking up right now about his candidacy.

A primary criticism of your analysis is that African-Americans do not vote for Black Republicans. A dark face sounding like a conservative George W Bush doesnt deceive Black voters - Ohio's Blackwell is an "Eric Miller candidacy" par excellance. That works in Mooresville churches, not Indianapolis churches.
Who knows what Eric Dickerson really stands for except he "looks to the future" and "will bring leadership for Indianapolis". Sounds like a used car salesman! Platitudes.
He's proven he can't raise money for a serious winning campaign and wont risk his own personal money ...
He's just another Republican wanting to go to that GOP cesspool of corruption and cronyism in Bush's Rubber Stamp Congress.
Then why are you and Julia fretting this election so much?
Wilson "ghost employee of the Year"
When did you become an authority on how African Americans vote? I would suggest you stick with what you know about and that is Julia Carson and the Ghetto Mafia's criminal activities.
I agree with Advance, if Julia has this race won, why are you worried and keep commenting on Dickerson on every blog site. You aren't going to change any voters minds.
Get a life Wilson!
19 more days and we won't have to endure Wilson's direct link of anything on this blog to Eric Dickerson.
Julia will win, by ten or so (sigh) and this is the last campaign she'll win. So our Wilson days will be over.
This was about MARYLAND, Wilson. Maryland. Four states to the east.
Maryland politics is rough-and-tumble. Much moreso than here. Steele's color is probably an irritant to Dems in that state who think all blacks should be Republican.
What ought to rankle Dems is Steele's platform. It's not Maryland mainstream.
His ethnicity ought not to matter one iota.
For the record, I haven't heard a soul, Wilson, wax eloquent or ugly on Eric Dickerson's race. Not one. Blog or real life.
Speaking of real life, life beings when you get one.
Advance Indiana, you're comparing apples to organges. In Maryland, Steele has been heavily advertsing to Black voters in Baltimore and subruban Maryland counties near Washington, using both cities powerful Black radio stations. Eric Dickerson has no ads running on Indy's heavily listened to Black stations, while Julia's all over the airwaves. In Maryland, Steele is making inroads, because of his visible campaigning and advertising to Blacks. Dickerson isn't campaigning in Black areas, isn't advertising in Black media, isn't visible. The two campaigns can't be compared.
I must admit I don't have the qualifications to make educated comments about the black community, but I do know about the expression involving a pot and a kettle!
Jocelyn, you lay "get a life" on Wilson regarding his commenting on every blog site that mentions this race; well, how many have YOU missed commenting on?
Give me a break.
For a white man you sure claim to know a hell of a lot about black people Wilson.
The black vote does seem to be the key to beating Carson. Even Andy Horning's low budget campaign held her to 54%. I doubt Dickerson will be able to make any inroads on her support in the black community, but we might be surprised.
Jeff Newman, who are you? maybe you need to get a life.
I have one. African Americans who happen to vote Republican are under attack by others who religiously support the Democrat Party.
Wilson - If I have told you once, I have told you twice, you can not speak for black people and how they plan to vote in this election.
your comments will not change their minds.
Wrong:
Eric Dickerson will receive votes from African Americans, and
Dickerson's radio ads started Tuesday on 4 stations and will continue through the election. Yard signs are in the yards of African Americans.
fwiw, i have never claimed to speak for Black folk but my lengthy political experience in helping win many elections with successful African-Americans gives me some practical knowledge of tactics and strategies.
Some perennial candidates like Ms. Tandy persist in losing election after election - why would anybody ever listen to them ?
I'm an avid radio listener, multiple hours and channels daily, and I haven't heard one Dickerson ad. I saw his bus at the Nora Target the other day, and I've seen a couple of bumper sitckers, but not one yard sign.
If the media buy was, as reported, $16,000, I again observe: that's like pissing in the ocean. It won't move a single voter in all probability.
As for Black Republicans... everyone is entitled ot his/her view. I try to base my support on actual records, platforms, and data. It used to be much more true, that Republicans had nothing to offer the black community.
I think that's no longer true, as is the case with most sweeping comments like that.
But, to be fair--rare is the black Republican, and, if you pay close attention to the Republican mantra, there's not much there for anyone other than wealthy white males. With a few exceptions.
Poor Jocelyn now says she spent over 20 years running for various offices just to get proof of election fraud. How noble and selfless! So where is it? Where's the proof? Why hasn't crackerjack Republican prosecutor Brizzi prosecuted a whole bunch of people? You have NO proof whatsoever. People have challenged you repeatedly to produce it and you always make an excuse of some sort. You are simply lying, Jocelyn.
Poor Jocelyn is shameless with her excuses for continually losing races. She's also a jinx for whatever candidate she supports. To top it all off, she's a nasty homophobe, hollering FAGGOT at me in a public parking lot with children around. Pitiful in 2006...
Blogmeister: please remove Jocelyn's accusations against me of criminal activity. It's libelous per se .
Jocelyn calls Wilson a faggot, Hailstone calls Jen Wagner a dumb bitch.
This is exactly the kind of denigration of the oppostion from the far right that has caused the public to turn on your beloved Republican party.
The Democrats are lucky to have folks like you to help them out.
This informative blog is starting sprial down with all of the quibbling of a couple of people with personal agendas. Ok, kids, let's all behave!
LOL at Jeff.
I know, or know of, both Wilson and Jocelyn.
Wilson is right about Jocelyn, and she's probably somewhat right about him, too. She's run for office multiple times, and at no time, to my knowledge, did she get more than a smattering of votes, certainly not even the baseline Republican amount. She's frightening in person and shrill.
So whatever votes Wilson stole, which I believe, it wasn't enough...unless he stole tens of thousands. No one can do that. And I know for a fact that Goldsmith as prosecutor investigated this so-called "ghost employment" thing regarding Wilson. He could find nothing. So there. If a Republican asshole like Goldsmith, who'd love to find wrongdoing, can't find ghost employment regarding Democrat Wilson, it must not be there. He'd indict a dust bunny if he thought there was political advantage in it.
Wilson served Julia well on her staffs. He has served as one of her chief political dirt-diggers for years. Why anyone needs to so aggressively court favor, soas to humble yourself and route through trashcans for information on opponents, is beyond me. An obvious lack of self-respect.
And almost zero respect anywhere else.
So, folks, let's stand back and let 'em have at it. I strongly sense each will be largely irrelevant real, real soon. Wilson, because this is Julia's last race, one way or another. Jocelyn, because, well...she's Jocelyn.
Wilson, I'm more than happy to oblige your request. I would similarly ask that you refrain from making statements which question the sinility of certain commenters, in addition to many other unkind things you've communicated about other folks.
11:37 is that you Melissa Lear? Or another one of Wilson's sock puppets?
I saw yard signs for Eric all over north Warren Township. 38th & Mitthoeffer, 42nd & German Church (yes I know that's Lawrence Twp), 30th & Mitthoeffer, 25th & Post, and 30th & German Church.
Eric's ads are running on the AM outlets in town - WIBC, WXNT, and WTLC during the Amos Brown program. Also running on 107.9 The Track.
ummm... excuse me! what on earth does "sinility" mean? How could I ever accuse anybody of such a non-word? If you mean "senility" you will find that's an AnonyMouse word here ...
Jocelyn, again, please refrain from accusing Wilson of committing a crime he has never been charged with, let alone been convicted of. If you have evidence, then please post it at your own blog so it can be properly evaluated. You leave me no other choice than to delete your messages if you continue doing this.
Advance Indiana:
I can appreciate your positon, however You should apply the rule to each of your bloggers.
Wilson has made numerous accusations on this blog and others which he can not prove.
Jocelyn, please stop making the charge here. Post it over at your blog. Thank you.
will, will, will ! but they haven't yet and they never will because testifying about such crimes would be perjury. Swearing to tell the truth on the Holy Bible is taken seriously by most folks...
I feel your pain, AI...you're half done, but then, Wilson hasn't stooped to accusations about specific crimes. He's very cunning that way.
I just looked for 1999 Demo mayoral primary results...they/re not posted...too old. But as I recall, Jocelyn got 500 or so votes. Thievery must've stolen the rest. A made-up dog can get 500 votes.
She's since bolted to the GOP. They can have her.
There are no specific pieces of information, Gary, just urban legend repeated and expounded over the years. That's why she didn't post it.
I'm gonna wait a little while, and post a funny story about Jocelyn and Julia here in a few days. It's true, hilarioous and goes way back.
Perhaps the story from 1984 when Time Magazine gave Ms. Carson kudos for replying about a critic (Jocelyn) : "Oh that poor child - she does have her problems!"
Carson camp again with "the child" comments. Wilson if you do not want to answer the question about Julia's comment on a little girl that we can't find then quit referencing childing. It's kinda like Ted Kennedy discussing someone drowning. Just not good form.
Cover your ears!
U.S. Senate candidate Michael S. Steele garnered support from an unlikely source Monday -- former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson.
At the news conference in Ohio, where he will return to the ring Friday night, Tyson wore a white-and-blue "Steele for U.S. Senate" T-shirt as he posed for photos with fans and signed autographs.
Tyson said he used to believe black Republicans were "sellouts," but he said he changed his mind after researching the Maryland lieutenant governor."We have to open our eyes more," Tyson said, as he pointed to his T-shirt
Wilson, you seem to be playing on racist fears with that last comment. That is the point of this post you know.
Isn't it amazing...when you get Wilson's goat, he doesn't answer. But let anyone breathe a word about anything he might inject Eric into, and we're off to the races.
The little girl, Wilson...she brought it up, not anyone else.
The answer is, since he won't provide it: she zoned out, wandered off, halucinated. Flat out. On camera.
And I didn't have to dig through criminal records or dumpsters to catch it.
Cowardly, cowardly AnonyMice scurrying in the cracks and crevices, spreading misinformation, gossip and whispers. Faceless drones corrupting politics with lies ...
And just what part of Julia Carson discussing a missing little girl is a lie by the ED crew, Wilson? Julia said it on TV. Roll the tape again. Or are you trying to say that Channel 13 fabricated that part of the interview? Becaus if they did she needs to file a lawsuit.
What I know... Its that vast right-wing conspiracy. They are making all this about about the little girl and the ED team has gotten Channel 13 to go along with it.

Steele was never attacked with oreos. That is a hoax.
Jaxebadd
Isn't this the same Michael Steele that his opponents used pretexting to obtain his credit report and they pasted it all over the 'net for all to see?
Sounds familiar....
