Marion County At Large CCC Candidates

In addition to selecting a new county chairman on Saturday, Marion County GOP committeepersons also slated candidates for city-county council races. In particular, four persons were slated to run as at-large city-county councilors. The four include:

Edward Coleman
Michael Hegg
Michael Jezierski a/k/a Sir Hailstone
Kent Smith

Michael Hegg, an Indianapolis police officer and one of the at-large candidates, was kind enough to share the names with me yesterday after local news media failed to identify the candidates in news reports. Hegg also shared some of his views, which I think will be found to be refreshing by many AI readers. Hegg said:

Politically/historically, I am from a Democrat family. However, I have been registered as a Republican since 1984. I would call myself a Moderate Republican.

I think that in this day and age, people from both major parties should have a lot of moderates in their ranks, so as to balance any extrememists..or as Ferris bueller stated, "I don't like -isms. -Isms are bad in my opinion" . . .

Although I have several friends and co-workers of [the GLBT] community, I profess to an ignorance of those goals/needs, as up until now as a voter, I've kept my own opinions of sex, religion, and politics out of most conversations. That reticience also goes with my straight friends, by the way].

In a few words, here it is: MY opinion on the needs of the goals/needs of the GLBT community is...[drum-roll] that they deserve the respect that any group deserves..which is to say, that the GLBT Com [carpal tunnel, my abbreviation from here on in if thats OK] are taxpayers like you and I.

Any discussion of discrimination based upon sexual orientation is absurd, period. Although SJR-7 is being legislated on the State level, I am against it. I applauded the passage of the HRO from our City County Council and would have voted for it had I been a sitting member of the Council.

As Chris Douglas pointed out in his response to me, another goal of the GLBT Com is to be treated with decency and respect.I don't think thats a whole lot to ask for, not only for a potential political representative, but for anybody.

Bottom line: Although I am happily heterosexual [for the information of any homophobes who want to start a policy of personal destruction], the thing is..that as long as any member of the GLBT Com or any other group lives their lives as a good neighbor with me and my community, then that's it, period. I will not block their legal attempts to peacefully petition the government for redress of grievances, as is the right of ANY group/voter in Marion County . . .

Michael Jezierski is known to most AI readers as frequent commenter Sir Hailstone, which will likely make him a lightning rod on the GOP ticket for Democratic criticism. Taking Down Words has already singled out his candidacy for comment, referring to "the grumpy old troll otherwise known as 'Sir Hailstone.'" I really don't know anything about the other two candidates, other than Kent Smith was an unsuccessful candidate for Center Township Constable in last year's election.

Unless he sold his property right after losing the election, Kent Smith is NOT a property owner in Center Township. How do you assess that?

The GOP sure knows how to pick 'em!

Ron Gibson should send flowers and candy to Tom John et al...

Ron Gibson should be in trouble politically, but he probably isn't.

Which will be one more sorry lesson in Marion County politics.

All four of these guys are gonna lose, AI, probably by 20,000 votes or more.

King Ro Conley and Ron Gibson, easily re-elected...there is NO justice.

I'm still thinking about running, unslated! I'll just ride in on the coattails of the new mayor!!!

Wilson46201 said...

There are 3 levels of races in Indianapolis this year.

The Mayor's race is a nolo contendere.

The At-Larges also seem to be written off by the GOP.

All the above affects the 25 separate District races for Council. The GOP will have no coat-tails for weaker candidates to ride on. An open seat is easier to "flip" and the GOP is losing several incumbents. That also helps Democrats.

Courts drew the districts so there is no obvious egregious partisan gerrymandering at work. Last time around both parties were off their game because of the newness of the district boundaries.

It costs absolutely nothing to get your name on the ballot for the spring Primary. There's a short, simple form to file at the Election Board and you're on! No petitions needed or any of that ...

Wilson, the reality that we all know is that it doesn't matter who the GOP slates, you will bad-mouth them all day. We all know your daily goal is to trash the GOP and others who don't share your views, it would be nice if you brought some insightful, well-thought out arguments to the table once in a while.

Erik12345, let's not get into side-chatter about individual commenters and stick to the topic of the post, OK?

After that total capitulation by the GOP to the rightwingers in the Indiana Senate, I rather think they deserve to be trashed.

Anonymous said...

Sticking to the topic of the post....better words you could not have spoken oh wise one Wilson....My point, and politically I'm more on your side than you believe, is that you seem to have personal vendettas against certain members of the opposition and to others who disagree you and are quick to make comments that can easily be construed as vile in their very nature........

Sir Hailstone said...

Edward Coleman is a Ward Chairman in Perry Township.

And Wilson, property owner or not it's not a prerequisite. I don't own real estate I rent an apartment.

TDW, yeah, blah, blah, blah...she was SILENT on the entire changing police reports and Glen Howard showing up at the pea shake. Because of course we know, democrats NEVER do anything wrong. She is a hypocrit as well as the dumpster diver.

Wilson46201 said...

It would be good if the sputtering and spewing anonymous nobodies could stay on topic too ...

Sir Hailstone I want to help your election. You have my vote, how else can I help?

Many years ago I watched the CCC debate the wisdom of allowing city employees- mainly police and fire-- sit on the council. It was suggested that conflict of interest and charges of double dipping would be the least of the problems if city workers were allowed to debate and vote on issues where self interest was involved.

There no longer seems to be any discussion of the wisdom of electing city employees to hold office, nor does there seem to be any doubt it is a bad idea, judging by current affairs.

Is another city employee, no matter how sympathetic his qualifications, really desirable on the CCC?

If the at-large Republican candidates bust 40% in this fall's election, it's another sign that the apocolypse is upon us.

There will be some spirited district fights, tho. Stay tuned for those.

How nice, Hail. Now you have two volunteers.

Advance

Kent Smith is a new face on the political scene and a life-long resident of Indianapolis, graduate of IPS Schools, presently working towards his college degree, serves as treasurer of the newly found African American Republican Council, married three children former National Guard Recruiter, serves in the Army Reserve, self-employed, a Deacon in his church, volunteers with young males in the OK Program, is a brown belt Karate holder. He is a very decent and honorable young man with a future.

I am confident he will be elected in November.

Response to Wilson46201

do this community a service, will you! You need to dig up and expose the dirt on the candidates in your own party. You do not represent, nor speak for the African American Community or Voters. Cleanup the corruption in your party and quit slandering people you don't really know. What kind of track record do you have any way?

I am sure I will be seeing you on the campaign trail, and from what I hear, you are one filthy smelling ?

Wilson is wrong again.

Not that it is a requirement to run for city-county council. Mr. Smith owns property in Marion County. Evidently you dug up the wrong information this time.

Wilson46201 said...

If Kent Smith ran for Center Township Assessor, it should be noted he owns no property in Center Township. He could own all the tea in China but if he is opening up an espresso coffee shop, it'd be just as peculiar.

Anonymous said...

Not knowing his politics, it seemed to me that Kent Smith was a decent presence on the podium on Saturday.

Anonymous said...

Wrong again Wilson

You are confused. Kent smith ran for Center Township Constable last year not Assessor.

Keep digging, and while you are digging we will be digging on you.

You need to spend more time on the Ghetto Mafia members background. I am sure you will find plenty of dirt to write about.

It seems to me the amount of time this Wilson character spends knocking every Republican office holder and candidate, he needs to get his own blog instead of dominating the debates on each of the sites. He has proven his slander and rumors are not factual.

He does not represent the interest of the African American Community, nor does he select our leaders therefore,I can assume by the zip code, he lives in a poor neighborhood. Is he a leader in his own race and community?

His ignorance of the rights of citizens under the Indiana and U.S. Constitution and certain political facts or well noted in his comments which should be ignored.

I have read numerous blogs and he has been a negative commentator on each site. He doe not comment on the recent news articles regarding the present corruption within the Democrat Party, yet he has nothing but negative comments relating to members of the Republican Party which he can not substantiate with facts. He merely writes his own opinions and interpretations of limited information and public records hoping to influence anyone who reads them. Another wanna be demented politcian who does not have the guts to run for office himself. My opinion, a real WACKO!

I dont care if he is a cop or not.
At least he has the courage to run, particularly in this political climate where his party is not as strong as the majority parety in Marion County.

Some delinquent taxpayers should attend to their own faltering business rather than meddling in others business...

Wilson don't you owe a refund to the taxpayers of Center Township for getting paid for work you did not do before you retired? You did do alot of campaign work for Ms. Carson when she was Trustee on the clock and you know it. You were and remain her little errand boy. Remember Carson fired me because I wouldn't play her game. Dr. Osborne never ran that office like she did.

Anonymous said...

Wow. I hadn't heard Dr. Osborn's name in a long time.
I was around then, too...trust me, his office wasn't well-run, either. Many, many charges of ghost employment were leveled.

Chiropractors, for whatever reason, don't seem to make good public servants, or so it would seem locally.

Wilson has his strengths, and weaknesses. I think he's funny.
And a tad pathetic.

But the biggest chuckle I got today reading this blog, was the African American Republican Caucus or whatever it's called. That meeting could be held in a VW Beetle.

Wilson46201 said...

I owe anonymous nobodies nothing - especially lying anonymous nobodies.

Anonymous said...

Wilson prove it. You have quoted rumors and accusations on these blogs against anyone who identifies with the Republican Party. True, you seem to avoid the obvious. No admission of facts about Democrat officeholders. If you are such an insiders with those elected officials, one would believe you have firsthand knowledge of the facts published in the media.

It is no secret that you have spent time meddling in other peoples' business. What is your claim to fame? An admitted
"dumpster diver" for the Democrat Party with dirt in your past. My, aren't you sensitive when the shoe is on the other foot?

Anonynous 5:54 PM

You would be amazed at the number of African Americans leaving the Democrat Party across this country and voting Republican today.

Democrats pander to minorities, low income and uneducated citizens.
On the national level, when they had control, not one issue was resolved. On the state level, no issue was resolved. On the local level, no issue has been resolved. Yet Democrats blame the Republicans for every problem.

Presently, Mayor Peterson and the Democrat controlled city-county council has spent tax dollars on everything but the right thing. Services to the public are being cut, financing public safetly is second to the Colts and a stadiumm,
costs overruns on most city projects, last but not least major corruption in the administration and no leadership from the Mayor.

Thinking voters know and want to be independent, not dependent on government handouts. Democrats
maintain and promote ignorance of the real issues,dead-end social programs which don't improve their standard of living, and dependency on government handouts. The race card is played as a distraction when all other methods fail to hold on to the black vote. Say it isn't so.

History shows the Republican Party has been the Party in this country to promote self achievement and financial independence for all citizens not the Democrat Party.

Yes, there will be more African American candidates running on the Republican ticket in the very near future.

I thought this article in today's paper would educate some younger Democrats.

Presidential aspirations

In 1960, Frank Beckwith, a black Indianapolis lawyer and judge, ran for president of the United States against Richard Nixon in the Indiana Republican primary, getting 20,000 votes. Beckwith also pushed for black high schools such as Crispus Attucks to be allowed into the state high school basketball tournament. He helped get bus transportation for Indianapolis students and get blacks onto the staff of Marion County General Hospital, now known as Wishard Memorial Hospital. Beckwith died of complications from peritonitis on Aug. 24, 1965, at St. Vincent Hospital.

Wilson I don't really know about you but I'm certain that the republicans are going to gain more ground in November then you think. I have been digging and finding some interesting things on some Dems that are running for ccc and At large, and I will be releasing my finding to the GOP. Conley, D. Mahern, J. Billerman... Yeah I can keep going on things that I have found, and you want to say taht we know how to pick them! Have fun and I'm sure that we will cross pathes sometime this summer on the campaign trail.
