Anderson-Ballard Truce
A joint memorandum to Indianapolis police officers from Sheriff Frank Anderson and Mayor Greg Ballard earlier this month suggested relations between the two weren't as bad as at least one person tried to make it out as. Today, the two confirmed the cooperative spirit by agreeing on the terms under which Mayor Ballard will assume control of IMPD under a proposed ordinance in front of the City-County Council. "Public Safety is job one," Mayor Ballard said in a statement. "This agreement is only the beginning of a process that will result in a new level of coordination and new capacities in public safety. It is truly a win-win for the citizens of Marion County, and I thank Sheriff Anderson for making a true beginning in building the consolidated law enforcement team we all deserve." Who will he (Abdul) have to blame now?

in politics, this is how work is done most effectively. kudos to both for an acceptable compromise.
i really don't understand why abdul is the object of so much scorn here and other places. i'm glad we have him and others such as this blog keeping a close eye on thing as well as providing their perspective.
10:43,
Abdul doesn't keep a close eye on anything. Since Republicans were elected Mayor and to the Council, Abdul doesn't dare cast a critical eye. He did serve as the clown prince at the inaugural ceremony, after all.
There is no such thing as bad publicity. Please keep talking about me.
The bottom line is that Greg Ballard made a lot of promises to anyone and everyone to get elected and now that he is in the Mayor's Office he is backing down, selling out and becoming as corrupt and dishonest as Bart Peterson was!
Unfortunately most of us agree that Abdul has changed a lot since Greg Ballard became mayor. He somehow can not see as well?
Sure thing, Abdul. Maybe I'll boost your radio audience share from 0.01% to 0.02%.
Actually we did a lot better than that, especially amongst the money crowd. So keep talking about us, it's just free advertising. Amazing how you can help those you hate so much. Keep up the good work, Gar.
Now you're just talking like Amos, Abdul. "Hate" seems to be a favorite word he likes to toss around in his discourse.
Let's be honest. I am not your favorite person, you can't stand me and wish I would go somewhere else. It's cool, just be honest about it.
Hey, Abdul, it's too fun having you around. I don't want you to go anywhere.
I agree. As one of the most influential pundits in this state, I am fun to be around.
christ, you two. Can you cut the Mutual Admiration Society meeting short and get back to the topic at hand?
You two crack me up..for crying out loud...kiss and make up already
Did you light that Winston from the wrong end Abdul or has the truth just put a wedgy in your crack?
State's most influential pundit? Clown prince and court jester yes but influential?
You shouldn't start hitting the single malt so early in the day.
Smulyan at Emmis needs to buy WXNT. It would be a short trader's dream.
Apparently Mayor Ballard and Sheriff Anderson have arrived at an agreement on the pea shake house.
I wonder if Ballard will get the same rake that Peterson did.
Gary, I really appreciate your blog and try to read it every day. I think your investigative reporting is top notch and I see things here not anywhere else. Thanks.
However, do you need to pick a fight with everyone, lately? You are allowing your angry emotions to spill over - and speaking from personal experience - you might consider taking the emotions down a notch. Not everyone on the usual same team are always in agreement on every topic. I disagree with Abdul sometimes - just do not need to punch him out over it. Take care.
I agree. As one of the most influential pundits in this state, I am fun to be around.
I guess you're playing your "part-time comedian" gig here. I suppose one must be a truly influential pundit to get an adjunct spot at Ivy Tech as opposed to an adjunct job at one of the Indiana or Purdue campuses.
