Seed Vows Not To Miss Votes

The Seed is already offering assurances he won't follow in his grandmother's shoes and regularly miss votes in the House of Representatives. He says he plans to be sworn into office tomorrow as the second Muslim ever elected to Congress. Will brother Louis Farrakhan be on hand to wish his emissary well? Let's not bother certifying the election results first. Or is Beth White going to rush that through her kangaroo court called the Marion Co. Election Board before anyone has a chance to scrutinize dubious election returns?

David Orentlicher holds a press conference today to receive the endorsement of a guy calling himself a nephew of Martin Luther King, Jr. Seriously, David, do you really believe any blacks in the 7th District are going to support your candidacy? Remember, the Carson political machine just used you to promote themselves and then kicked you to the curb when it became convenient for them. And look out, David. You have no idea what they have in store for you. When they finish up with you, your political career will be in permanent tatters.

Oh yeah...David O's career is in trouble because he's betting it on the chance that he can beat the slate in the primary. Even if he wins, there will be Democrats that won't like him because he bucked the slate.

I'm quite sure David O knows what is at stake.

There are many Republicans, Independents and some Democrats
who are certainly disappointed. But, please don't make this into that phrase from your 2nd sociology class - a "self-fulfilling prophecy".

The House on its own can go ahead a accept a new member if the unofficial results of the election are not in question ... it also helps that Jon Elrod has conceded.

That is better than Orentlicher who sat at his desk and refused to vote and then lied and said his voting buttom was broken. It mysteriously worked on the votes prior to the tax bill and the ones just after. How could you trust a man like that? Orentlicher seems a little ethically challenged.

I was sick that the Seed won. On the bright side (gimme credit...I'm trying to find one!), he's off the CCC so he can't do any more damage there and he'll be all but impotent (figurately and perhaps literally too!) in Washington.

Between the morons at the Statehouse and another Carson in office, Hoosier politics are frighteningly symbolic of people who are ignorant, gullible, greedy, lazy, or all of the above. It greatly saddens me.

Wilson..."go ahead a accept a new member"... slow down, boy!

Derek King is indeed the nephew of Dr. MLK King, the son of Dr. King's brother who also died under mysterious circumstances. He has been in Indy for several years now, maybe close to a decade. In the past, he was a community organizer working for the MLK Center. He is also a pastor.
I've heard him preach. He's very good.

Ruth, I don't question he's a nephew. It's just pointing up the silliness of it. Sort of like the "send my seed' message. The relationship of the latter to the former is so tangential as to be meaningless.

Rest assured David O's career will be just fine after the primary. I mean, what will he ever do if he loses? Can he even get a job in the private sector? I wonder if the fact that he is a respected attorney will help? Maybe being a doctor could get him something? My God, why would he ever risk a position as a state legislator making $3000.00 per year? Jon, the voters of the 7th District have far more to lose by not electing David O than he does by not being elected.

Jon Easter, are you even a Democrat?

I am, and I can assure you, the "slate" will be bucked by more than David O in the future. And there'll be plenty of folks to back David in the fall if he wins the primary. Get real.

The party's backing is almost worthless, thanks to past chairmen and the one we're stuck with now.

David O can match Andre stupid postcard-for-stupid postcard. Who might David place beside Andre in fake photos? The possibilities are endless.

And a little scary.

And Wilson, you'd best re-read House rules. Specifically the part about Special Election winners.

The House is indeed the sole judge of its members, but, they must have validating credentials to take the oath.

Just like most other things, you gfot about half of it right. And just one more thing--was that indeed you walking around taking video of all the attendees at David O's event today? If not, you ave a (more evil) twin. Perish the thought.

If so, why the hell were you doing that? Waiting for a Macaca moment?
And you expect to get that by filming the attendees? Is this some kind of sick intimidation thing you like to do? Are Carl and his thugs gonna whoop up on those who attended, but who, by your sad Center Gulag mentality, shouldn't have?

Tacky.

If it was you, and you try something similar of me or my friends at a campaign event, be prepared to retrieve your Nikon from, uh, well...let's just say an IMPD cavity search may be required.

Am I a Democrat anon 9:26? Yes. I'm a Democrat, and I feel very good about the election.

I also feel good about the 7th District Congressional race. I am a firm supporter of Andre Carson, but I believe David O. is a great, bright guy. I know Woodrow Myers son, and he's a good fella. I also know Carolene Mays. Any of these four individuals will win the General Election in November.

All I'm saying is that...at least politically...the choice is clear. Orentlicher, Mays, and Myers are betting their political futures on bucking the slate. There are some...especially old school Democrats...that will not support any of those people ever again...even for dog catcher.

David O will be fine one way or another as will Myers. Mays may be too conservative to win the 7th. I love Carolene as a person, and she has a great story, but she will get very few votes from the ever-growing GLBT community in Indianapolis. That could make Mays-Elrod the most interesting potential race.

If I had to prognosticate now, I think that Andre is the favorite running from the incumbency with David O. and Myers close behind.

I'm a proud supporter of Andre Carson, though, and a Democrat rain or sine!

Let me clarify...

Elrod doesn't want David O., Myers, or Carson to win the primary. He wants a tete a tete with Mays. Carolene will likely win, but here Conservatism on the gay marriage issue might be something Elrod can score points on.

Regardless, I agree with Gary. Carson is going to likely win the primary, and I'm very happy about that with due respect to my friend David O.

AQnon 9:26 Obviously you are not a Democrat or you would know that Jon Easter is a very active Democrat who has helped build a strong organization in his part of the county........David O has irritated a large portion of the party by his self serving actions....

I am a Democrat as well but in recent years, the party has worked to make it difficult - pushing the wives, children and significant others of higher-placed Democratic power holders against better, qualified individuals.

For example, David O. is a doctor, lawyer, college professor and seasoned state legislator. Yet my party wants me to vote for a young man who is a former excise officer (no earned rank above officer even as Julia Carson's seed)and who has done nothing in the way of service for the democratic party or his community. On the plus side, he has served on the council for approximately four months.

I know there are Democrats who will blindly follow the slate but I just can't do it anymore. I voted for Mr. Carson in the special election but I will not be voting for him in the primary.

john easter i don't understand rain of shine, explain it to me. are you saying that any democrat no matter their past is better than a republican or independant? i always try to vote for the most qualified, and i assure you that wasn't carson

Heard a rumor the Carson political machine plans to install Sam Carson to fill Andre's spot on the council. Any truth to it.
