Smoke Free Indiana Making Progress In Indianapolis
The Smoke Free Indiana folks score a win in the Indianapolis club scene. The owners of Talbott Street nightclub will declare it a smoke free zone beginning April 1. Bar owners in Indianapolis have been fighting hard against a statewide smoking ban that would extend to bars and nightclubs. Talbott Street's owners are quite familiar with the club scene in major cities across the country and don't see a negative downside to becoming smoke free.

The Vogue in Broadripple recently went smoke-free for all 'ticketed' shows.
Isn't that the whole point...that business owners should be allowed to determine for themselves whether smoking is good for business, and not be somethign mandated by government?
I applaud the group for lobbying businesses to change their policies. That's what they ought to be doing instead of going to the legislature and getting a law passed.
Smoking in crowded night clubs is never a good idea. I think I've said it before. There's nothing more irritating than people who walk through a crowded club holding their cigarette at eye level. I've known women to complain about discovering burn holes in their dresses when they get home where someone brushed them with a cigarette.
It shows the futility of their argument... If they spent more time talking to these club owners, and bar owners, they might do what Smoke Free asked... Instead, they seek the quick fix.
Looks to me like the quick fix is exactly what's happening.Bravo! We are making a difference!
Talbott Street will be fine without smoking. And I think it is great that they made that decision for THEIR nightclub.
Just don't let someone other than the owners of The Melody Inn decide it is best for their club. For The Mel is not THe Mel without the smoke.
Thank you Talbott Street for being the leaders of the smoke free gay bars in Indy. I only hope the other gay bars will follow your lead.
Hello from progressive Louisville, KY where all bar workers, musicians and patrons can freely mingle and work in clean air. Nobody should suffer to keep a job. Many clubs have put in nice little patios for the puffers and it works just fine.
Cincinnati, Chicago, Wash DC, New York, San Francisco, etc etc...even entire countries realize that allowing a minority to ruin the air for the majority is a disgraceful impingement on basic human rights.
It seems that Talbott Street is not smoke-free at all. I was there for a birthday party on Sunday April 26 and it still had the "smoking establishment" signs up front at the door. How come?
