At Least Three Vie For Stutzman's Seat
U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman's decision this past weekend to seek the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Dan Coats next year, who is retiring at the end of his current term, has already produced three Republican candidates to fill his Third District seat. Two state senators, Jim Banks (R-Columbia City) and Liz Brown (R-Fort Wayne) are laying claim to the seat. Brown finished third in a crowded special election caucus to fill former U.S. Rep. Mark Souder's seat in 2010. Additionally, a former Wisconsin state senator, Pam Galloway (R-Warsaw), a retired physician, told the Journal-Gazette she plans to seek the Republican nomination next year. Galloway resigned her seat in the Wisconsin state senate in 2012 due to health issues in her family while in the midst of facing a recall election.
