Is American Senior Communities COO Out?
A reliable source within the long-term care industry tells Advance Indiana that American Senior Communities COO Dan Benson is the second top official of the company to exit the company following last week's raid of former CEO James Burkhart's sprawling Carmel mansion and the company's headquarters by federal investigators. Late last Friday, ASC announced the firing of Burkhart, offering assurances that the decision to terminate the CEO's employment had nothing to do with the company's operation of any nursing homes serviced by ASC. Advance Indiana could not confirm the rumor of Benson's departure. Advance Indiana contacted ASC earlier this afternoon seeking confirmation of the rumor, but the company did not return a message left with its spokesperson.

Isn't Smokin Joe Hogsett and Burkhart good buddies?
I've heard that. They are both from Rushville, and Burkhart has contributed to Hogsett's past campaigns.
I should add that Burkhart only contributed to Democratic candidates. The Jackson family members who I understand are the principal owners have contributed a large sum to various Republican candidates and party committees.
Great picture. Virtually screams "I'M A YES MAN YES I AM!"
You don't get anywhere in Indianapolis without being friends with that small circle that runs the town and makes all the money.
Did you think the FBI agents at Benson's house that morning were there to deliver flowers? He caught a search warrant too. Looks like ASC is doing some serious damage control.
The Indy media's attention span is as short as a child's. I haven't seen this development report anywhere else. I'm hearing the Jackson family members have taken the reins back from the people who led their company astray.
Yes, our local news media has a tendency to back away when they should be digging deeper. ASC has a pretty big ad budget. That might have something to do with it.
No longer synonymous with winner, the inner circle is what?
Good post. I will be dealing with a few of these issues as well.
