More Fallout In Allen Co. To Forged Candidate Signatures

Former Allen Co. GOP executive director Doug Foy's decision to forge the signatures of nearly a dozen GOP candidates to qualify them for the November ballot has had serious consequences. The Allen Co. Election Board has removed 11 GOP candidates from the ballot as a consequence of Foy's actions.

This may not be the end of the matter for Foy, however. His actions constitute a Class D felony under Indiana law. Unbelievably, 9 of the 11 candidates removed from the ballot were running unopposed and six were incumbents. Under Indiana law, if no one runs for an office, the incumbent automatically keeps the office reports the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.

According to the Journal Gazette, Democrats on the election commission were disturbed that among the 11 candidates, only 3 would confirm that their signatures were forged; the other 8 refused to comment. The matter is being referred to the Allen Co. prosecutor. If charged and convicted, Foy could face punishment of 6 months to 3 years in prison. Foy insists that he in "no way intended to cheat the electoral process", and that is was simply an "error" on his part.

I'd be interested to know if the Sherrif's race is one of the ones that had their signatures forged. That's the race in Allen County I'm following the closest.

No--it did not involve county-wide races. I believe they were primarily township races.
