George Ryan Transferred To Terre Haute Pen

Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan, who recently began serving a prison term for a variety of public corruption crimes, has been transferred to the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute according to the Indiana Daily Insight. "Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan (R) is now living on the government's dime in Terre Haute, transferred to the minimum security facility at the Federal Correctional Complex there from a Wisconsin prison camp – apparently over his objections, and due to new federal policy on the age limit for prisoners at his former Wisconsin prison camp – to continue serving his sentence on federal corruption charges," IDI reports. "He is slated to be released in 2013." This development has got to be quite upsetting to Ryan, who is 73, and his family. Being housed at the prison where Timothy McVeigh was executed couldn't have been what Ryan expected. As governor, Ryan imposed a moratorium on the death penalty in Illinois after he discovered that a number of inmates on death row had been convicted under dubious circumstances. I'm surprised the Bush administration didn't help him out on this one.
