No Insurance

The Star's Jeff Swiatek points out the financial predicament many homeowners affected by recent flooding are facing after learning their homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. According to the Department of Insurance, only 1% of homeowners in Indiana, or 28,000, have flood coverage. In some areas like Edinburg, homeowners were first hit by last week's tornados before watching flood waters stream into their homes. Along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, many homeowners fought with insurance companies over whether the damage to their homes was caused by the storm or the flood waters. If your home suffered flood damage, click here to get some useful hints from FEMA on how to go about repairing your home.

The price tag for the damage to the flooding continues to grow as more and more bridges and roads fail. This morning, WIBC reported that Columbus Regional Hospital may have to be rebuilt after the structure shifted during the flooding. According to the report, the cost of repairing the structural damage may make rebuilding the better option.

Nit: That's COLUMBUS Regional Hospital.

That'll be a shame if CRH must close to rebuild due to structural damage.

Unlike some other small hospitals in rural Southern Indiana, CRH was not a "M*A*S*H Unit" that pieced one back together then shipped you off to Indianapolis or Louisville. Other than major trauma they could handle most medical cases at CRH.

Thanks for the correction.

I'm required to purchase flood insurance as I live in a flood zone. Strangely enough, I have no water damage from all the rain. Seems kinda backwards.
