The Star's Vic Ryckaert reports on the arrest of yet another IMPD officer. This time the arrest is for drunk driving. The officer in question, George Leon Benjamin, allegedly crashed his department-issued vehicle yesterday evening into a fence. His blood alcohol level is reported as being four times over the legal limit at .32.
UPDATE: Yeah, I thought there was more to this story. George Benjamin is brother to IMPD Deputy Chief William Benjamin according to Ryckaert's story in the Star today. And this is not the first time he has been accused of driving a police vehicle while intoxicated. He has twice been investigated for alcohol-related incidents but not charged with a crime. Benjamin crashed another police vehicle just last month where alcohol was a possible factor. Benjamin formerly worked as a security guard for Mayor Peterson. Hopefully, he wasn't his driver. As I recall, Peterson's car was crashed a couple of times while he was mayor.

Alcoholism is a disease. Lets hope the officer gets some help so he can get on with his life!
