I am so tired of people who don't know what the are talking about saying there was corruption going on with Omni source! How dare you accuse officers of wrong doing with out facts. If there was corruption it was not with the uniformed officers working security there. You accuse them of corruption based on insinuations and rumor. Where are your facts? The reason the paper even mentioned it is because it is one more thing to add to their story. If there was any real facts they would have spent more time covering it. How irresponsable of you to further this false alligation. I dare you to present actual evidence of police misconduct in that case!
Is Mayor Ballard aware of anything going on in the City? I guesss he has also claimed he didn't know that ACS was represented by Joe Loftus, an adviser ot the Mayor.
I most certainly share all the concerns AI raises in the last paragraph. Sadly, last week I returned to my initial assumption that the appointment of Ciesielski was based on his proven past experience in public relations, in media presentation, and in pleasing his superiors, but that those abilities would end up being his failings that would prevent him from being a great police chief.
Scott Newman, a former partner at Barnes & Thornburg, almost immediately exonerated the police officers in question of any wrongdoing before any investigation had been concluded into the matter. Our corrupt prosecutor, Carl Brizzi, did exactly what he was ordered to do with the case--nothing. The fact is there were police officers who were supposed to be investigating scrap metal thefts who were also working for OmniSource. The fact is some of those police officers were targeting other scrap metal competitors in town with undercover investigations at the very time OmniSource employed nearly 50 off-duty police officers and purchased stolen metal products. The fact is the attorney for OmniSource tried to get the lead police officer investigating the activities fired for simply doing his job. All of this has been documented in previous news media reports. Get your head out of your ass, DazedAndConfused.
AI,Don't forget the fact that Carl Brizzi's missed a deadline for indictating an intention to forfeit over a quarter of a million dollars of seized OmniSource funds.According the IBJ article, Dave Wyser was in charge of the grand jury office responsible for forfeitures at the Marion County Prosecutor's Office. When the error was made public, Wyser said it was Greg Garrison's fault. Greg Garrison said the Prosecutor's never contacted him about starting the forfeiture. In either case, the result is the same . . . there was no litigation to determine if the $270K were the procedes of criminal activities. Some private attorney earned their firm a nice fee.
Frank Straub, Indianapolis do not need you!You came to our city trying to impose your New York Liberal ideas on us. They include taking money from police & fire to protect us and building yourself a lavish suite of offices, expanding your personal staff with do-nothing unnecessary jobs (City vehicles likely go with those patronage hire-ons), you have created race-based hire-ons. Your ego is so blown-up with your love to see yourself on media so much that you blacked-out police/fire public affairs from speaking to media, and you interject answers to questions posed to police, instead of letting them provide informed answers.Straub's propaganda has become obvious to us. Perhaps Mr. Obvious on the radio will discuss you this week...Now AI tells us you were wasting the police chief's time from the police department to organize a public relations promotion and speech for yourself. That, Frank Straub, is crap! The police chief has a police department to run. His job is NOT to be your puppet/public relations manager. Likewise, in case you have not learned yet, our City Council has denied you the operational control of the police department that you mistakenly think you have. Just why the Chief is allowing you to direct the assignment of his staff and operations personnel is beyond my comprehension, especially since you have no authority to discipline, hire, or fire the police chief. A man with moral courage needs to step up and tell you that he will not allow you to tell him how to run his department, nor allow you to hire crony's as your staff and try to have them in any type of authority over the police or fire department.Frank Straub, read your job description. You are failing our city and embarrassing our mayor. The best thing you can do at this point in time is pack your bags and go back to New York.
Great catch, Bob. Thanks for reminding me. I don't know how I could have forgotten that little slip up on Brizzi's part. I'm sure the return of the money came in handy to pay the legal fees OmniSource owed to B&T.
Ahh but you didn't mention that in your post did you. You just included a tidbit about Omni Source along with the investigations of criminal act by officers. This makes people who read your blog think that "50 officers" are suspected of criminal acts. In fact no uniformed officers were the target of that investigation. Don't compare the possible political corruption with people like Brizzi with the officers who are under investigation for criminal acts and if are guilty should be punished accordingly. The way you talk about the "50 officers" makes it sound as if all of them are suspected of wrong doing. Thus simply isn't so.
And just for your information, undercover officers often coducted invetigations to see if Omni source employes would purchase suspected stolen property. Omni source was making it as dificult as possible for people to bring in stolen metal.
It's obvious DazedandConfused is one of the off-duty police officers who worked at OmniSource now isn't it. Why don't you post your name, you gutless coward?
Thanks, AI, and also, way to tell it, Indy4U2C.
Bring the Sheriff back into law enforcement! We need someone watching the other side. It is well know that MCSD and IPD had riffs because one pointed out flaws in the other.
I am confused bythe section of the post below:During the brief encounter, Billings accused Benjamin of having an affair with the female clerk in question and claimed he had been disciplined by Ciesielski for the affair. I'm told Billings did not identify himself to Benjamin when he confronted him about the text messages, which Benjamin denied sending to Billings. How could Billings, who works for ISP, be disciplined by Ciesielski?Did you mean to say Benjamin rather than Billings?
It speaks for itself, Mark. Billings allegedly accused Benjamin of having an affair with the same clerk with whom he had been accused of having an affair. The source claims Billings told Benjamin that he (Benjamin) had been disciplined for that affair by Ciesielski. It is my understanding Benjamin denies Billings' claim.
