Is This Our New State Auditor?
There's been some chatter that Gov. Mike Pence intends to announce tomorrow that his choice to become the next state auditor will be Brownsburg Town Council President Dwayne Sawyer. If you want to get an idea of what he thinks of the general public, watch how he presides over the public comments portion of the most recent town council meeting. He allots three minutes to the town's citizens to voice their concerns about issues, but he and other members of the council refuse to engage the public by responding to any of their questions they pose to the council. They're particularly not interested in hearing from the new residents the town acquired through a controversial annexation that was bitterly opposed by those being annexed into the town. The town council members reserve their give-and-take discussions to the vendors and private developers who come before them seeking contracts and handouts courtesy of the taxpayers. It's a bit ironic that he describes himself as a "servant-leader" on his Facebook site. If you watch the full council meeting, you will see that Brownsburg is as deeply invested in diverting valuable tax resources using TIF funds to finance private development projects as Indianapolis.
