Indy Chamber Announces Opposition To Constitutional Ban On Same-Sex Marriages
The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce joins a number of prominent Indiana businesses in voicing its opposition to continued efforts to enact an amendment to Indiana's Constitution to ban legal recognition of same-sex marriages, which have been statutorily outlawed in Indiana since 1996. The Chamber expressed concern that passage of the amendment would make it difficult for businesses to attract talented workers to the state. The issue has heated up after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down earlier this year a provision of the federal Defense of Marriage Act that denied benefits offered under federal law to same-sex couples who entered into legal marriages that are offered to opposite-sex couples based on their marital status. The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce has so far remained neutral in the debate despite the fact that some of its largest members, including Eli Lilly and Cummins, have publicly spoken out against the amendment.

Precisely how does a ban on gay marriage prevent a city, state or country from obtaining all the qualified help it needs to run the machinery of commerce?
Anon 4:07 -beyond speaking to how hateful, backwards, small-minded, petty, and provincial the culture would have be to permit such a laughable anachronism, there are large numbers of educated and talented professionals who identify as gay, or who are straight and to whom issues of marriage equality are an extremely important and relevant indicator of the cultural climate. Having the choice of bringing your talent, expertise, and investments to a state that would proactively penalize you, or rather to one where people know enough to mind their own business, and refrain from judging those they don't understand, well...can't you see? The fact of the matter is that if you're not gay, great. The bedpartners that a polite educated adult should care much more about are those who are politically in bed with each other, and how this effects society, rather than things that go on behind closed doors and are absolutely none of you nosey minded business.
