A Marion County jury returned a guilty verdict against former Marion Co. Sheriff's Deputy David Carrico for committing battery on an inmate of the county jail while he was handcuffed two years ago. Carrico was fired after the injured inmate sought medical treatment at Community North Hospital following his release from the jail and filed a complaint against him. A security camera inside the jail captured the incident, which was viewed by the jurors. Carrico is just one of nearly a dozen deputies employed by Sheriff John Layton who has been charged with committing a crime in the past couple of years.
