Council Committee Gives Approval For $18.5 Million Give-Away To Angie's List

It matters not that Angie's List has never made a dime in its 20 years of operation or the questionable business ethics the company employs to shake down service providers for whom they supposedly offer objective business reviews for advertising dollars. What matters is that the company's founder and CEO has a lot of political clout with the politicians because of the campaign money he and his high-paid lobbyist spread around. Yes, Democratic mayoral candidate Larry Vaughn has more common sense than the members of the Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee who voted to misappropriate tens of millions of our public dollars for the use of this tramp corporation as Vaughn aptly calls it.

Good ol' Larry Vaugn. He may be a bit gruff in his approach but he has the courage to stand up and say what a lot of us are thinking. I wish there were more folks like him at these meetings.

Angie's List is running out of steam. They laid off hundreds just last year and had the nerve to come back to the city and state months later holding out their hands for cash with promises to hire again.

Owners/brokers are cutting companies outstanding deals in effort to keep them from moving out of downtown. If this were a well run company they'd be looking to scoop up some of the A-class office space in one of the many vacant office buildings downtown. Maybe even put Angie's name atop one of the tallest buildings in the state for some much needed publicity. But that's not what this is about. This is about a few higher-ups at Angie's getting a shiny new building for pennies on the dollar, at the expense of Indy taxpayers, and leasing it back to the company for well above market rates.

Bad management at Angie's List, combined with a product that has become tainted and trust lost by the payment of it's advertisers to disregard the ratings of members.

I have a new name for tax increment financing: tax excrement financing. Because the arguments used to support it are pure excrement.

Who is building this new parking garage and renovating the building now owned by IPS. Is it true Ersal Ozdemir is in the mix on yet another taxpayer-financed deal?

How cold is it? So cold that Larry changed his hat...

Yep- a tramp corporation for which tramp politicians sell their Democrat and Republican tramp hides.

The best interests of the Marion County taxpayers be damned is the message both parties send to us.

Nothing is gonna change.

What was the vote and how did they vote?

Only the council chairman, LeRoy Robinson voted against it. Vop Osili, John Barth, Zach Adamson, Mary Moriarty-Adams, Ginny Caine, Will Gooden and Jeff Miller all supported it.

What a shock that Vop Osili, John Barth, Zach Adamson, Mary Moriarty-Adams, Ginny Caine, Will Gooden and Jeff Miller all supported this blatant taxpayer cash giveaway. These damn fools usually support giving away someone else's money to further their own agendas, financial status, or political power.

Zach Adamson is far better suited to be a daytime television game show host than a Counselor (or a hair dresser), Jeff Miller has so many sides of his mouth to speak out of only a hydra can converse with him, Will Gooden proved long ago he would vote any way the David Brooks insiders want him to vote, and Mary Moriarty Adams has to be the Queen of City County Council Corruption.

The City of Indianapolis is circling the drain` and all these fools can do is toss more taxpayer dollars at a losing proposition... Angie's List. Local, State, and national politicians caused me to lose any respect I had for "the law" because we are no longer a nation of laws but a nation of men.

Thanks Zach, Mary, Vop, Jeff, and the rest of you. That some of you Counselors are attorneys brings further shame on your chamber.

Is there an angies list where we can learn about and share experiences with corrupt, leach like companies???

this is an email i got from jeff miller
"We can’t use TIF funding for those purposes you mention. This was the best way to use the TIF funds to help the neareast community. It will help a depressed area and keep jobs there (up to 2,800 are committed for the area). All of the nearby community organizations were in support of this proposal."

Anon 12:40 thank you for that email information from the many-sided mouth of that piece of work, Jeff Miller. What a card carrying moron this guy is. And should the now wealthy Angie Hicks and Bill Osterle NOT produce those "committed jobs" how will you handle that?? What REAL "guarantee" do you have those jobs will occur, Jeff? We poor Marion County taxpayers have heard this refrain before and when the jobs don't come through... the company still enjoyed the bennies jerk politicos like you bestow.

Who cares how many people were "for it"? If everyone in the area was for you jumping off the West 10th Street bridge would you do it?? Is that your lame-brained excuse for agreeing to this continued taxpayer support of a Ponzi scheme??

And is it the purview of municipal government to "save" jobs [your excuse for larding money to your crony buds]??? District 19 deserves so much better. I am a Republican and I wouldn't vote for you.

It is clear that Indianapolis has become too stupid to fix itself.

i aske zach adamson why does he like to waste tax payer dollars on his Facebook page this was his response:
"I don't. I assume you're refering to Angie's List. I hope you know this will put 2 properties back on the tax rolls and bring in over 1 mil a year in property tax alone. If they meet their hiring commitments, the income tax will be over 1 M a year. That means in 5 years, they'll have paid back all of the non IPS money in this proposal. We're not wasting tax money, we're making tax money make more tax money."

Thank the stars for Detroit and Gary. If not, Indianapolis would be the worst city in the Nation.

This is the same Mary Moriaty Adams who voted for the merger of the MCSD and IPD to save taxpayers money. Good judgement on that. Are we to trust Vop Osli who made the political statement, "hands up don't shoot" during a council meeting? The lot of them are hypocrites. Angies List is a pyramid scheme/a house of cards at best. They will be gone in 3-5 yrs. And Indy will have nothing to show for it.

Can somebody tell Angie's List the "service" they offer can be found at a dozen other places online for absolutely free?

Anon 4:37.... Now you know why schmuck Zack Adamson's Just Hair failed. What a great businessman this liberal twerp turned out to be and now he's a Counselor spouting economic nonsense such as "we are making more money with tax money". And he's doing it al on the hope of a promise that some low paying jobs will become a reality from the company that has never turned a profit.

Just "Hair"-brained is more like it.
