Last fall, National Review featured a highly critical piece by Kevin Williamson, "Pathetic Privilege," in which he gives you a pretty clear picture of what the Planned Parenthood spokesperson, Lena Dunham, is all about:
Lena Dunham is fond of lists. Here is a list of things in Lena Dunham’s life that do not strike Lena Dunham as being unusual: growing up in a $6.25 million Tribeca apartment; attending a selection of elite private schools; renting a home in Hollywood Hills well before having anything quite resembling a job and complaining that the home is insufficiently “chic”; the habitual education of the men in her family at Andover; the services of a string of foreign nannies; being referred to a homework therapist when she refused to do her homework and being referred to a relationship therapist when she fought with her mother; constant visits to homeopathic doctors, and visits to child psychologists three times a week; having a summer home on a lake in Connecticut, and complaining about it; writing a “voice of her generation” memoir in which ordinary life events among members of her generation, such as making student-loan payments or worrying about the rent or health insurance, never come up; making casual trips to Malibu; her grandparents’ having taken seven-week trips to Europe during her mother’s childhood; spending a summer at a camp at which the costs can total almost as much as the median American family’s annual rent; being histrionically miserable at said camp and demanding to be brought home early; demanding to be sent back to the same expensive camp the next year. That's the least offensive of what Williamson wrote about Dunham, who wrote in a book, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned from which she earned a $3.5 million advance from Random House to write, about sexually abusing her younger sister, Grace, while her sister was a toddler:
If there is such a thing as actually abusing a child through excessive generosity and overindulgence, then Lena Dunham’s parents are child abusers. Her father, Carroll Dunham, is a painter noted for his primitive brand of highbrow pornography, his canvases anchored by puffy neon-pink labia; her photographer mother filled the family home with nude pictures of herself, “legs spread defiantly.” Self-styled radicals from old money, they were not the sort of people inclined to enforce even the most lax of boundaries. And they were, in their daughter’s telling, enablers of some very disturbing behavior that would be considered child abuse in many jurisdictions — Lena Dunham’s sexual abuse, specifically, of her younger sister, Grace, the sort of thing that gets children taken away from non-millionaire families without Andover pedigrees and Manhattanite social connections. Dunham writes of casually masturbating while in bed next to her younger sister, of bribing her with “three pieces of candy if I could kiss her on the lips for five seconds . . . anything a sexual predator might do to woo a small suburban girl I was trying.” At one point, when her sister is a toddler, Lena Dunham pries open her vagina — “my curiosity got the best of me,” she offers, as though that were an explanation. “This was within the spectrum of things I did.”Dunham said she summoned her mother after discovering pebbles inside her one-year old sister's private part when her 7-year old curiosity got the best of her, which she suggested the toddler (now a grown lesbian) had done as a prank. Dunham angrily reacted to unflattering interpretations of the book's passage on her Twitter account, sprinkled with frequent use of the "F" word.
Dunham also came under attack for another passage in her book in which she accused "a campus conservative" named Barry at Ohio's Oberlin College where she studied of sexually assaulting her after a night of partying that included taking cocaine and Xanax because he tossed aside a condom she supposedly insisted her wear during sex. She also accused "Barry" of having a violent sexual encounter with one of her classmates that left blood spattered on the walls "like a crime scene." Neither incident was reported to police at the time, although local law enforcement reportedly opened an investigation after the book's claims surfaced because the statute of limitations had not yet run. Under a threat of a lawsuit by the man Dunham unmistakably described in her book and a Breitbart investigative report throughly discrediting the book's accounts, Random House agreed to alter the passage to avoid association with the man against whom she apparently made false allegations. The accused man, who is the son of a former host of NPR's "All Things Considered," is actually a Democrat.
Young Conservatives tweeted, "UGH!", in reaction to news Malia Obama is interning for Dunham. TMZ responded to the tweet: "You have to be prettyyy cool to have important career opportunities like this." Yeah, right. How many 17-year girls get a front-row seat watching a sleazy Hollywood writer, director and producer make porn? Malia must have really cool parents to allow her that opportunity.
UPDATE: Us Magazine thinks Malia''s summer job is a real cool gig as well:
Talk about a great summer gig! Malia Obama landed the dream internship of a lifetime this summer — working with Lena Dunham on the set of HBO’s hit series Girls.
“She’s a fan, and she mentioned that to Lena [Dunham] when she came to the White House,” a source close to the production told Us Weekly. “I’m not sure how long she’ll be interning for. It’s a bit of a trial thing for her. They’ve known each other and discussed for a while. Lena and her get along great.”So Malia told Dunham she was a fan of her show when she came to the White House. I dont' know which is more disturbing: that she's a fan of the show or Dunham was a guest at the White House. Check out this NSFW clip of scenes from the series if you doubt those who aren't fans of the show.

Most caring parents would never allow any of their children to be involved with this type of trash. I guess left liberals like Barak and Michelle Obama, who are documented to have rarely truly toiled for their multi-millions of dollars [books written by others, fake jobs in Chicago hospitals, shady real estate deals made through their Chicagoan good friend convicted felon Tony Rezko, ad nauseam , have no trouble setting up their daughter for potential future big bucks and insider connections. The Obama parents follow what Bill and Hillary Clinton have done for Chelsea completely regardless of ethical or moral ramifications. But then again, leftist liberal Democrats are allowed to break any sanctimonious rules they insisted others must adhere.
Most caring parents would never allow their children to be involved in anything the gutter trash (and I am being kind) known as Lena Dunham, the Pillsbury Dough Chick of the far left liberal set. Nothing personifies filth as does Lena Dunham and I just cannot fathom any parent allowing to any extent their children’s proximity to what everyone knows is nothing less than intellectual pornography.
I remain convinced that liberalism is a severe mental disorder.
Who cares- non story- sex is everywhere folks. Always has been, always will be. At least she is is doing something. I bet she will actually see less than interning for some closet Republican that pays for sex. Unless she is shadowing a blonde Fox provocateur, nothing she does will satisfy the haters.
What I love is you know the Secret Service is there protecting her. So on top of everything Tax Payers money is being wasted too.
Just when you thought the lowest common denominator could not sink further along come the "oh so cool" Obama's apparently willing and proud to have their daughter be intimately involved with a group of people who would not know intellectual honesty and decency if it were to walk up and introduce itself to the likes of admitted sexual child abuser and egotist Lena Dunham and trash cable TMZ.
The American culture has been transformed by leftist liberal Democrats where exposing children to literary filth is now considered being highly intellectual and where the cult of personality tramples classical education and classical deductive reasoning.
I can only assume Barry and Michelle Obama loll in "their house" and groom their daughter to be the new Chelsea Clinton who demanded what most every would agree describes the extortion of $65,000 from students at University of Kansas City at Missouri for her 10 minute speech; this was after the University balked at paying grandma Hillary Rodham Clinton's $275,000 appearance fee. No one can say Barry and Moochelle are not quick learners to liberal processes: they've seen how the "Bill and HIllary Clinton Initiative" money laundering scheme works and they probably are setting up their spawn for similar filthy lucre.
How prim of you to concern yourself. Perhaps the girl chose for herself the path of her career and tossed aside prudish protestations of parents. My dear, departed grandmother told me to keep one eye open for the finger wagging of overly puritanical Hoosiers. She said victorian attitudes towards morality should stay in victorian times. And she thought women could think for themselves. I think old men should stop worrying about the proper morals for young women and mind their own business.
To the first poster, who "remains convinced that liberalism is a severe mental disorder."
Definition: Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. The former principle is stressed in classical liberalism while the latter is more evident in social liberalism. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but generally they support ideas and programs such as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, free markets, civil rights, democratic societies, secular governments, and international cooperation.
Liberalism first became a distinct political movement during the Age of Enlightenment, when it became popular among philosophers and economists in the Western world. Liberalism rejected the notions, common at the time, of hereditary privilege, state religion, absolute monarchy, and the Divine Right of Kings. The 17th-century philosopher John Locke is often credited with founding liberalism as a distinct philosophical tradition. Locke argued that each man has a natural right to life, liberty and property, while adding that governments must not violate these rights based on the social contract. Liberals opposed traditional conservatism and sought to replace absolutism in government with representative democracy and the rule of law.
"Prudish protestations of parents?" anon. 12:34, or would you prefer, Melyssa? Because Secret Service protection is required for Malia, who is only 17, the parents had to consent to her summer job. It is a matter of public concern since our taxpayer dollars are being used to pay for her protection. Given the reported "Best Little Whore House" antics of the Secret Service over the past several years, I suspect none of them are protesting the assignment. If she's interested in a career in acting, I can't imagine there were not other options more suitable for a minor like Malia to work and gain valuable experience without being exposed to an x-rated work environment.
Classical liberalism is not even remotely similar to modern liberalism, anon. 12:52. Locke, by the way, held strong Christian beliefs and thought government should have no tolerance for atheists because they undermined the social order. He also supported the death penalty.
Excuse me , but what does this have to do with advancing Indiana? My 18 year old son is joining the Air Force against my wishes...does that make me unpatriotic or just a bad parent? I will support my son 100% in the decisions he makes whether or not I think they are in his best interest. Parenting is about unconditional love. I am sure that they have discussed the pros and cons of this experience as a family and I am fairly certain that this included societal perceptions and media bashing. Please stick to your mission statement and quit adding to the shrill sounds of division and judgment.
You don’t really believe “it is a matter of public concern since our taxpayer dollars are being used to pay for her protection.” That sounds like one of those ridiculous arguments advanced by Huckabee to support his outrageous proclamations of late. I think the Afghans show us what happens when men try to dictate their morality to girls. Her choice of internships is of no concern to anyone but herself, a mentor and perhaps her parents. And by the way, I think Lena Dunham is a fine young actress, quite refreshing, and that you old poops who find her shocking are the same types that couldn’t believe television would put Marlo Thomas on a show where she played a girl living alone in the city and working a job in “That Girl”. Hardly shocking today. And the producers of the Mary Tyler Moore show couldn’t make Mary’s character “Mary Richards” a divorcee because men would think she had divorced Rob Petrie and would be shocked and offended. They couldn’t say the word “pregnant” on I Love Lucy, and even though Lucy and Desi produced the show. Censors required this couple, married in real life and on the show, to sleep in twin beds. Morality. Do we really care what old men think? Do we? Do you really think since we taxpayers pay for secret service protection that we can decide for ourselves that this girls internship is morally inappropriate? Get a life.
I don't think modern liberalism has strayed far from the ideals of Locke. I know lots of liberals who believe in God and also the death penalty. Its these ultra conservative types that are the wing nuts. I was just listening to Bernie Sanders speak, and he makes a lot of sense to me. Common sense. I'm an Episcopalian, and we just voted to marry gay people in the church. So not all Christians are evangelical crazies. I just listened to this absolutely nuts pastor of the Dallas Baptist church and I think his message is sick and twisted and advocates overthrowing Courts and such. I for one am happy to live with the gay decision, and happy to listen to new voices like Sanders. And I'm reevaluating my former choices when I voted for Republican presidential candidates because I thought they were fiscally conservative. They're not. And some of them are weird, bigoted haters. I will keep an open mind this election and decide for myself. But I rarely vote for people filled with hate. And I thought Trump shot himself in the foot.
Gary, this is an appropriate blog posting and your rebuttals to the left of center liberals is, as always, cogent and spot on. Left of center liberals will always excuse their fetish to their ideology which more resembles a Moonie cult than a political philosophy.
The loony left Democrats (but I repeat myself) do on your blog what they do anywhere else a differing opinion or a valid comment is made: they change the subject.
I am willing to wager Advance Indiana's audience is growing, it's readership becoming more diverse, and the habit of turning to you increases by the day. As a metro Indy out and proud LGBT, I am one of your loyal fans and I am very grateful for al the (mostly unpaid) hours you invest in proclaiming the truth to Hoosiers... even if they do not want to hear it at times. I don't know why the heck you do not run for public office.
A Maine man died during a Fourth of July celebration on Saturday night when he tried to launch a firework from the top of his head and it exploded, killing him instantly. This is the same thing that happens to my head every time I hear one of these odd Indianapolis lgbt conservatives whine on this site about their unhappiness with “the left agenda”. In case nobody noticed, the log cabin republicans are dead in the water. Nobody cares what they think, or say. Not in the Republican party. Not in the Democrat party. Nobody. In real life there are no gay people who support Ted Cruz, or Mike Huckabee, or Santorum, or Walker. If you want to have gay people post, then have gay people post, but to regularly put odd, confused left hating “out lgbt”s on to blather on and on about what can only be described as bizarre conservative fetish….what’s the point? Nobody in the lgbt community speaks in this way. Even log cabin republicans didn’t espouse such views. It cheapens the real exchange of opinions when weird, fake opinions are presented as if they were representational.
Anon 10:54's comment post, most especially the very last line, appear to be completely borne out in light of the postings of the subsequent also-Anonymous commentaries. 10:54 stands completely vindicated. For me, left liberals are necessary to the American society. Hell, we all need comedic relief while the nation is even more destroyed by the leftist liberal Democrats aided and abetted by the Establishment RINO Republicans.
The children of presidents used to be "off limits" when it came to the media reporting on their "antics". I remember "W's" twin girls being in the "unfavorable limelight" a few times for their drinking and other "shenanigans". Other than the fact my tax dollars are being pissed down the drain (nothing new) for "protection" of this child (ahem!) I wish I didn't have to hear a word about it. If she chooses to be a slut then so be it.
I have three daughters not much older than Malia and they are not perfect, but, if they chose to live a life of debauchery then it would be on their own dime. I would not financially sponsor their degenerate behavior and this is understood between all three of them and their mother and myself. Shameful that our government funds this type of behavior and "hip" parents don't give a care in the world..."just get out of our lives any way you can since we don't really want you around anyway" is what they are really saying.
Mike Huckabee: Isn’t it time we retire the term “RINO”?
“Many of you used a term that I’d like to see outlawed from the vernacular of the party: RINO,” he said, calling it a “pejorative term” that questioned one’s purity…
“With all due respect, I’ve fought in the trenches of Republican politics for over two decades, but I wouldn’t pretend that I’m lord over determining who the real Republicans are versus the so-called RINOs,” he said…
Huckabee reminded his readers that Jesus once said that “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” referring to the Gospel of Matthew…
“I’d rather have a loyal dog who licks me than one with a pedigree who bites me,” he added. “I’d rather go to battle with someone who isn’t perfect than with someone who thinks he is.”
Many Republicans would call Abraham Lincoln a RINO.
Ahhh... the fools chime in... don't know a dime's difference between classical and modern liberalism... don't have a clue regarding RINO "R's"....make unsupportable claims, (e.g.: the stupid and unsupportable statement at 3:13)...conflate their dream world ideology with actuality... believe it was Sarah Palin who said she could see Russia from her home [no, she never ever said that]...mindless repetition of liberal "slogan thinking"....claims that children of politicians traditionally are expect from media but had NO TROUBLE mocking Bristol Palin and little Trig... oh, the hypocrisy and the lunacy of liberals! I've never had so much laughter in one day reading the failed barbs of the liberati.
But I HAVE noticed that Advanced Indiana's commenter base is growing; we know the RINO locals and the Indy yokel liberal Democrats keep an eye on this blog. Maybe the politically retarded (I just can't wait for the sanctimonious PC crowd to bellow about that one...so there, I said it)... will get some wisdom from the main blog postings and Gary's excellent analyses.
Did anon 3:02 really just call Malia Obama a slut? First he complains “the children of presidents used to be off limits.” Then he rationalizes “if she chooses to be a slut then so be it.”
This is just a perfect example of the hypocrisy of the Christian right. This old man has something up his butt about the President’s daughter, and he thinks its ok to call her a slut in a public forum. But he doesn’t think there’s anything un-Christian about that. Or un-American. Or un-manly.
But let me just tell him, I come from a military background, and if I heard him call the President’s 17 year old daughter a slut in front of me, I’d punch him in the mouth. No man talks that way about a child. Certainly not the President’s daughter.
He calls out others for their shameful conduct. But I suggest he’s no gentleman. And, like so many others of his kind, he truly requires a church where he can pray for forgiveness for becoming the scum trash he’s become.
The next Miley Cyrus! I already see the career path.

Anon 2:18 avers: "Nobody in the lgbt community speaks in this way. Even log cabin republicans didn’t espouse such views. It cheapens the real exchange of opinions when weird, fake opinions are presented as if they were representational."
Anyone who really truly knows what the Log Cabin Republicans were like understands they were mousy, quiet, non-activists who tried to work behind the scenes to effect change. No, Log Cabiners would never proclaim the truth about the haters in our LGBT movement as that was not their style so what the hell the Log Cabiners have to do with this conversation is non-existent. But that's a typical liberal mind... create causation where absolutely none exists and change the subject. Mensa material, those left liberals.
Anon 2:18 is typical of left liberal Democrat ideologues who refuse to believe that their old, stale ideas of the past are the only ones that matter. These people are afraid of those who develop opinions and ideas of their own so they mock them and lie that critical thinking "cheapens" the "real" exchange.
Left Liberal Democrat gays and lesbians are just mortified that anyone challenge their pie-in-the-sky cram their beliefs down the throat bullshit and it's no wonder they think "no one in the lgbt" thinks the way a Conservative LGBT thinks. Liberal gays refuse to admit they exist and when found in their company they bully, throw hate, and set back our movement fifty years.
Anon 6:23, what are you exactly? Not a normal gay. Not a log cabin republican. The best you've got is "conservative lgbt." Sorry. That's not a thing. You're just another creep who hates gays and their politics and you come on this site and you blast every thing every gay person says and wants and you piss on every gay accomplishment with a sneer. You self hating gays are the worst. Just go back in the closet. You want to support the evangelical right? Stop identifying yourself as an out lgbt when you do it. Weird creep.
Anon. 7:30, You sound a lot like the way Democratic slave masters talk about any blacks who dare to describe themselves as conservative or Republican. You seek to divide everyone along lines of race, sex, religion, etc., and when people don't comport to your bigoted stereotypes, you seek to vilify them.
Gary, Anon 6:23 here. You nailed Anon 7:30 and those of his/her ilk to a "T". The hateful, bullying, intolerance Anon 7:30 puts on display here for the entire to planet to see if they so come to your site is what persons like me must cope with continually from many in my community. It's non-stop and it's part and parcel of being different and being intentionally ostracized because I and those like me can think on our own and we are now pushing back at the intolerance and hate and bullying that many non-LGBT are seeing on the so-called "activist" fronts.
You also nailed that these extreme leftists are, in truth, bigots themselves. I am tired of this BS and I am taking my place at the table- no matter how much the liberals do not want a big tent. Liberals are used to shutting people up but I will not be silenced. I am pushing back by speaking my truth and you can see what happens. The evil and hatred ooze from their every pore. You throw the water of differing thought and opinions on these haters and they are like Margaret Hamilton screeching, "You cursed rat. Look what you've done. I'm melting. Melting!". (I couldn't quickly come up with a show tune but I thought a good "gay-beloved" classic would be just as pertinent).
The faux-gressive idiot squad appears to be vying for a new title... I know several gay, pro-life, traditional marriage, 2nd Amendment conservatives who have to be careful speaking their minds. One's a friend who backed out of speaking on a local radio show about his traditional views; for fear of backlash from intolerant jerks who would threaten his employment.
There is only our community as a jurisdictional reality. There is no gay, white, black, etc., "community;" just categoric or divisive political schemes & notions.
It's the job of adults to protect children; not cynically feign acculturation by exposing them to adult themes or perversion; which is arguably abusive. Caring for children & protecting their interests isn't "prudish," it's responsible & caring.
Anon 8:31, I was going to post, but after seeing yours, you said it all about the hateful bigots!
If you’re gay and you’re “out” you ride the accomplishments of numerous gay activists that came before you and paved the way to be “out”. These people fought for freedoms in the streets outside of Stonewall against great odds. The “conservatives” fought every attempt to decriminalize gay sexuality, and every advance since has been resisted. The fight to tear free of the moral constraints of conservative American has been brutal. Even today “conservative” Republicans preach against gays every Sunday, would yank away every right, and would re-criminalize the “out” behavior you proudly assert. Do not minimize the importance of the work of those who came before you. And do not act so proud of your odd “conservative” leanings. It just means you have a lot to learn about where you came from and who your friends are. Its better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you’re stupid than to open it and prove it.
Good grief, my LGBT left liberal hater bullies are relentless, in both their intolerance and in their ignorance, are they not? Once again, these tiny terrors conflate their lunacy with reality. Leftist liberals utilize a Saul Alinsky trick of taking an opponent's statement, twisting it to the extreme, and attacking from that angle.
The reason I am again posting is to correct another big lie put forth on this page by the person who is apparently against free choice, personal conviction, and free speech. There is not one post here that denigrates those that many of us LGBT consider true heroes at Stonewall; but this is what liberals do: they lie. What occurred at Stonewall is vastly and completely different from the conversation on this Advance Indiana commentary page. Point out to me where the heck anyone disagreeing with the extreme left liberal views posted by liberal haters herein minimized the work of those who came before. Uh, let's see... no one here did. And for our friend who has the ego to actually think he or she has the same stature as those great men and women at Stonewall, well... megalomania can be a symptom of more than just a sloppy mind.
And did it ever occur to the intolerant lgbt bigot commenter that perhaps persons like ME are the contemporaneous counterpart to those at Stonewall and we now are pushing back at intolerance and bigotry and bullying wherever it is found... even when such unacceptable behavior infects our own community? Think about it.
On display for all of us to see plain as day is how the real bigots on the left, the haters and intolerant bullies commenting herein, work to shut down opposing views. People like that in the past had names... Stalin, Lenin, Hitler... and we know how that turned out. Different opinions are called worthless and the people holding those unique viewpoints are called stupid. It sure seems to me these left liberals are never happy people. Check it out. Always complaining about something, nothing is every right, they are the masterminds whose superior brain power will benefit all human life and make it better... in short, a group of bitter persons who are in a perpetual bad mood putting down anyone who dares to think on his or her own.
You can't victimize yourself in a situation you started in the first place. Christians, in general, have a hard time remembering that when they oppress due to sincerely held religious beliefs, yet cry "discrimination" when they feel a push back. This is especially true when those people are gay. Within the Christian community, there are those who probably believe they are being discriminated against. But get real; no one is pushing legislation that excludes Christians from basic legal rights in the U.S. such as job protection and marriage. Nor is anyone physically assaulting Christians due to their religious beliefs or advocacy. Christians are not facing actual tribulations, rather, the "discrimination" they cry comes from not being allowed to discriminate against others. “We’re so sad we can’t discriminate against gays who want to get married.” They are 96% of the population, there’s a church on every street, and they preach nonstop that gay people are going to hell. But nobody is doing that against Christians. They whine that their tribulations are equal to those who actually feel the real burden of hatred. We doth think they protest too much. It's a double standard and they keep crying wolf. But its just not real. You can’t victimize yourself in a situation you started in the first place.
Christians understand that retribution is the Lord's; not that of abusive, self righteous vendetta seekers. The good book says what it says about free will & the choices we make.
Standards aren't irrelevant by virtue of our failing them; any more than a destination is "irrelevant" when we're distracted & run off the road or stumble along the way. While denial is a strong emotion in all people; the Bible wasn't scripted as an act of cruelty (or hammer with which to whack others), but as a guide.
The tolerance enjoyed within America is expressly a judo-christian idea. If you don't like what the Bible says, fine, your free will informs you that it's your choice; not the responsibility of others to promote & who are likewise free, even to disagree with you. Don't however, twist disagreement into hatred or bigotry, which it is not. And yes, bigotry is a real problem; that shouldn't be fertilized with mischaracterization & false assertion.
Malia's choice of this summer job, is more proof that he Obamas are a very hedonistic family.
