It looks like Butler University's Police Chief Andrew Ryan's job is still secure after he was arrested by Indianapolis police for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and crashing into another vehicle, causing harm to that driver, during the Labor Day weekend. The Indianapolis Star reports Ryan is already back on the job after being placed on administrative leave for a very short time period following his arrest.
Ryan, whose blood alcohol level registered more than three times the legal limit, is also seeking permission to have his driver's license reinstated because driving is essential for his job. His driver's license was automatically suspended following his arrest. The Star also reports that Ryan is still employed by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Academy as a teacher.

The legal limit is set way too low.
And he still has his license or is someone having drive him to/from work????? Doesn't QUITE sound like, "and justice for all".
Justice only for the 1%
So much for all that silliness a few years back about the Butler Way. This is the Butler Way. It's no different than anyone else's way. I'll remember the next time President Danko asks me to give. How can an organization that fails to choose properly in such a simple matter possibly be a good steward of my money? Their choice. My choice...and an easy one at that. I'm embarrassed for my alma mater.
So what is he teaching - How to get sh*t-faced and still hold
onto your job?
Butler's head of security is a member of the Indianapolis City Council. Those folks have a different concept of rules.
So...what does he teach at the academy? "How to get arrested for DUI and still keep your cushy job?"
just further proof that those with political connections can do no wrong.
I heard he was suspended and has been demoted. And let's be honest, that's way more punishment than what IMPD gives out for their drunks.
The Butler Collegian has said very little about Ryan's arrest. Must not be much of an independent student newspaper. My old college newspaper would have been all over this story.
Interestingly, Anon 8:47, Butler just replaced their student newspaper's faculty advisor, with a member of their PR staff. Students and grads are understandably furious.
The Butler Collegian = Pravda
Andy Ryan is extremely arrogant and feels he does no wrong. He should be fired, from both his positions, and have his one year license suspension enforced like anyone else would. It is disappointing that his boss(es) do not see this as not only a black eye to the community and school but to the morale of their own department. Why doesn't the school newspaper look to other media outlets for guidance and support?
Was considering sending my children there. Not now! What an absolute embarrassment.
