City-County Councilor Ron Gibson faces charges stemming from what happened outside a downtown nightclub in July.
Gibson (D) faces charges of battery against a police officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
On July 16, a disturbance was reported at the entrance of the Blu Lounge at 232 S. Meridian. The officer who responded to the scene, Detective Jean Burkert, saw crowds of people trying to get inside and though someone might get hurt. Some of the people in the crowd were told by the officer to back up.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Ron Gibson was among those in the crowd being told to hold off. The officer said Gibson, who was demanding to be let into the club because he was next in line, showed signs of being drunk. Det. Burkert told him he wasn't going inside. Gibson shouted at her and pushed her with both hands. He left after being told to leave the area.Former Monroe County Prosecutor Barry Brown was appointed special prosecutor to look into the case after Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi requested it.
Gibson has not been arrested, and no arrangements have been made for him to turn himself in. If convicted on all charges, he could face up to a year in jail.
Marion Co. Prosecutor Carl Brizzi's office turned the investigatation over to a Monroe County prosecutor to conduct an independent investigation. If Gibson is convicted, he faces up to one year in jail. This could have serious repercussions for his efforts to be re-slated by Democrats next year for his at-large council seat. Kudos to Indy Undercover, which was the first to report on the warrant being issued for Gibson's arrest. Gibson had also been touted as a possible successor to Rep. Julia Carson.

Successor to Julia? Well he's on his way of becoming a qualified member of the ghetto mafia.
Uh, sorry to disappoint you, AI, but no one I've heard has touted Ron for anything. And I think his at-large status on next year's ballot was already in question, before this latest snafu.
The Julia Death Watch includes many people, but not Mr. Gibson.
He has plenty of troubles....sadly, most of them self-inflicted.
Here's hoping that he gets square with his demons. Soon. Because he's basically a good guy.
He ain't gonna make it past 2007 muni elections much less to become Julia's heir.
Besides Eric Dickerson will be our next congressman anyway.
Gibson told WTHR this morning at a press conference that he was upset with Brizzi for passing the case off to someone else, instead of handling it himself and dismissing it. In his words, Brizzi should have called a "spade a spade." He accused the deputy of acting with malice towards him in pursuing this charge. If I'm not mistaken, it was Gibson who first sought to have her fired over the incident before she actually filled out a complaint against him.
Are you KIDDING me? Ron used the spade remark? I'm hoping you heard that wrong, AI.
Was he intoxicated at the time? Because the "spade" remark is often viewed as racist.
Ron has exercised extremely poor judgment if he indeed filed a complaint against the officer in question. Even if she were wrong, and if he were abused that night---he's a freaking City Councilman, for cryin' out loud. Can't he see that the better part of valor/discretion would be for him to walk away? An odd demonstration of machismo, don'tcha think?
In short, nothing good could've come from his filing a complaint.
If he can't see that, then maybe he should step aside, get his life in order, and let someone with good common sense have his seat on the Council.
Wait a minute...there is already a Goofball Caucus on the Council...
And, I'm not a Brizzi fan, but I do understand his call for a special prosecutor. And I know Barry Brown--one of the fairest men you'll ever meet.
Ron is in deep kimshi.
Anon 12:26, that's what he said. He's on camera saying.
"fed up" may have 'demons in the bottle' problems of her own ... just sayin'
Advance IndIana:
Ron Gibson was backed by Carson and is a member of the Ghetto Mafia.
Let's be honest for a minute. What isn't a big deal. I'm not here to defend Mr. Gibson, in fact I find it deplorable what members of our City Council, including him involve themselves in, but this just isn't a huge deal. If this was a kid in broad ripple the most that would have occured is a night in jail and a suspended sentence. And in fact most likely all that's going to happen here is a suspended sentence, maybe substance abuse classes. Let's start looking at his record. I'm way more concerned about his contorsions on the human rights ordinance thatn this nonsense.
I'm stunned.
Maybe the continuous reciting of that tired mantra got to him: "Charter Schools work..Charter Schools are Better...Charter Schools don't hurt public schools."
"then maybe he should step aside, get his life in order, and let someone with good common sense have his seat on the Council."
Nah. Let him stay on - he'll be voted out in 2007 anyway.
Sir Hailstone for Council 2007. You heard it here first.
Exellent point regarding Gibson's judgment Anonymous 12:26. If his political instincts are no better than that, he's a fool to think he's heading for higher office.
I think he also demonstrated political self-destructive behavior with the Human Rights Ordinance drama. He ultimately came around and voted yea in round 2, but in his attempt to play both sides he did himself no favors, and in the end I don't think he won many friends on either side of the debate.
The guy must be really f....ed up to think he was going to impress two lady friends by shoving a lady cop.
"The guy must be really f....ed up to think he was going to impress two lady friends by shoving a lady cop."
Pretty sure he's not worried about impressing ladies.
Wilson, take your camera and go home! Go back to your Democrats who are convinced you are so pure. HA! Go tell them they have a problem, they are all getting the boot on Nov 7 because it has nothing to do with a party, it is all about the criminal activity who think rules don't apply to them.
Even Democrats are disgusted with the current office holders. The city is going down the sewer and the Democrats are driving that bus.
No. Democrats are not disgusted. So long as they can share in the corruption pie and can buy peoples votes or have their lapdogs like Wilson stuff ballot boxes and trash campaign signs then elections to democrats is just something that is a minor inconvenience.
All those fumes around Chicago must have addled HellStorm's brain - I don't even know how to stuff a ballot box! That's one of your Chicago/Region things...
Now if you are believing Jocelyn Tandy, I'd call the EPA instantly for environmental brain damage ...
Why are you in the pay of the Russian Mafia? See how easy it is to make undocumented assertions? Cut out the bullshit. Be a man and use your God-given brain for information and elucidation, not stupid vituperation ...
You guys are funny yet have insight
into how corrupt our leaders are.
They will say and do anything to convince the voters that their people are right for the job so the
ghetto mafia can continue. Please
don't forget Monroe Gray who fell
asleep and refused to hear the pleas of the prosecutor trying to
stop early releases and jail overcrowding....Crime Up????Look
to our mayor and his corrupt pals
Wilson not only are you a sociopath but you're a pathetic liar too.
Politicians like Ron Gibson - or from my side of the aisle George Ryan - makes all look bad. Using their status as public officials to usurp the laws or pad their pockets does nobody good and it kills interest in the process. And doing that you might as well go back to being colonies of England and allowing a king or queen rule over us by Divine Right when people are so disgusted over the process and getting involved means you get a microscope shoved up your ass.
On an unrelated note - Your Queen Julia Carson thinks she rules Indy by "Divine Right" and even if it takes shenanigans by you and her other Court Jesters to ensure her reign continues. Well guess what Cromwell is coming and heads are about to roll!
personally I've always been partial to Wat Tyler myself ...
Ms. Carson 'rules' at the repeated pleasure of the voters. It's called DEMOCRACY - get used to it in America. Leave those Scottish Biblical tracts behind - checkout the U.S. Constitution - it's enlightened!
and cut out the continued negativity and name-calling -- it's so third grade recess stuff...
More like repeated pleasure of dead voters and stuffed ballot boxes.
There's one amusing 'dead voters' story from many years ago - the precinct committeeman was warned that the FBI would be watching his polling place to see if he voted his dead mother-in-law again. He just huffed and retorted "What's wrong with that? I vote her the way she woulda voted if she were still alive!"
Might be apocryphal too...
"sir" is a monarchist title that we renounced and abjured in 1776 in America. It's so unrepublican!
Long live the USA !
