Keeping It All In The Family
Further eroding his credibility, IPS Superintendent Eugene White is adding yet another family member to the school district's payroll. His son, Reginald White, is being hired as a coach and behavior dean at Tech High. His daughter, Kim White, teaches at Marshall Community High School, which has been the center of controversy for the past couple of years. The Star says the IPS school board will "clarify the district's nepotism policy" to allow the hiring of his son and make it clear he will not be supervising him.

People keep telling you that there is a crisis of leadership at IPS. From an abusive superintendent who practices nepotism to a school board that refuses to act like a board and make decisions. IPS is headed for a shipwreck and Eugene White is speeding up the wreck. If he doesn't leave soon, the system will be bankrupt......the state needs to take over IPS before White totally ruins it.
I can only imagine the new IPS nepotism policy: "Relatives of Eugene White shall be hired as we lay off more experienced non-relatives of Eugene White. They shall not be accountable to him, not will their performance be reviewed, terms of contract will be the sole discretion of the Board of Education..."
-Something smells here! What's next? Will they hire Kenneth "Bones" Ackles as anatomy consultant? Monroe Gray with a "No bid" concrete contract for the schools?
He may not directly supervise his relatives but anyone who thinks a school administrator will write a bad performance review for those said same relatives is living in la la land.
We mailed you some information about what is going on within the district. Prudence Bridgwater, who is a Director of Secondary Education, has her son Clark Bridgwater working at John Marshall in the transportation department. Phylis Barnes, who is the Principal of John Marshall, worked with Larry Yarrell and Prudence Bridgwaters at Coleman Middle School. Larry "hired" Mrs. Barnes son to be the high basketball coach at Northwest. He does not have a teaching license and limited experience as a coach. Kim White was in IPS before her father. She is ok. Please post the stories that we mailed to you. The stories will open up a can of worms. Again, the Bridgwater stories
I haven't gotten anything by e-mail, Greg.
You forgot that Jackie Greenwood has her son working for IPS....and if I sat down with a couple of people we could make a list of several nepotism examples ...many people with jobs that they are licensed for and at the same time....there are staff who were laid off who are qualfified......I think we need a grand jury investigation..
we mailed you two stories to your office. Not emailed. We mailed them. do you want us to mail them again? :-)
I haven't received them at my office. When did you mail?
what is your mailing address?
In defense of Reggie White, he has been a longtime coach and teacher at Pike High School. He had some success at Pike winning a Marion County girls basketball title and a Sectional title there.
His last few years were not quite as successful, and that ultimately probably led to the end of his term there as he was 11 games under .500.
Still, it's not like he's some guy off the street. He has experience.
Jon, you are missing the point...he is being considered for a job that he is Not licensed to do...[according to the Indiana Dept of Ed website] while he is a licensed English teacher, he has not administrative degree which hw would need to be a Behavior Dean...in addition....he would be the 4th behavior dean at Tech which is unheard of......and we have licensed Engish teachers laid off.....Perhaps Ben Davis has an opening for someone you perceive to be so qualified..and he may be ..I dont know him but his qualifications are not the issues involved......lack of license, nepotism, and the creation of a job so he could be the coach...IHSAA rules state that head football and basketball coaches must be employed at the school where they coach...
Art,
1. This has nothing to do with Ben Davis.
2. Depending on what he's being hired to do as a behavior dean, he may be okay without an admin. license. Sometimes these jobs are stepping stone jobs into administration.
3. IHSAA rules provide waivers on a year-to-year basis for lay coaches. I believe the coach must hold a valid teacher's license and does not have to be employed at the school where he/she coaches.
4. I wasn't saying what happened was right or wrong. I was only pointing out that Reggie White is an experienced teacher and has had some success as a girls basketball coach.
