Indiana State Republican Chairman Eric Holcomb released a statement this afternoon announcing his departure as the GOP's leader as of July 9, 2013. The party's executive director, Justin Garrett, is also departing effective immediately. Holcomb announced his departure during a meeting of the state GOP committee this morning. Vice Chair Sandi Huddleston will assume the role of chairman for purposes of selecting a permanent replacement, who will then step down. Republican National Committeewoman Becky Skillman is also stepping down. Holcomb's statement indicated that an off-election year was the best time for a leadership change to occur. The state committee will take its cue from Gov. Mike Pence on who will take the helm following Holcomb's departure next month. Holcomb said an announcement regarding his next assignment "will come sooner rather than later."
UPDATE: Howey Politics says the exodus caught state central committee members by surprise. He claims the exodus includes party treasurer, Peter Deputy. Howey says sources say the resignations are not a reflection of dissatisfaction with Gov. Mike Pence.
