Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold launched his bid to become the Republican nominee for State Treasurer next year. Incumbent Republican Richard Mourdock is term-limited from seeking re-election after serving two terms.
Seybold begins his campaign with broad-based support from Republican leaders and officials. According to a press release announcing his candidacy, he has the support of more than 50 state lawmakers, municipal officeholders, and national and state and community leaders.
Seybold is a three-term mayor of Marion, first elected in 2003. Seybold unsuccessfully sought the 5th District congressional seat of retiring U.S. Rep. Dan Burton in the 2012 primary election. Seybold and his sister competed in the 1988 winter Olympics in Calgary in the figure skating event as a pair, finishing tenth. Seybold is a small business owner. He and his wife, Jennifer, have three sons.
