Well this is awkward. City-County Councilor Joe Simpson has filed a lawsuit against the City of Indianapolis for his 2012 arrest by IMPD for allegedly interfering with a home invasion investigation at a neighbor's home. The charges against Simpson were later dismissed by a Marion County judge. Police claimed he was interfering in a crime scene investigation and refused to leave when ordered to do so. A lawsuit filed in the federal district court claims the statute requiring persons to stay at a distance of 150 feet from an emergency scene under which Simpson was charged had been changed in 2011 to limit it to fire scenes. According to the Star, the lawsuit claims Simpson's arrest caused him to experience “physical discomfort, loss of liberty, public embarrassment and humiliation, emotional distress” and “damage to his good name and reputation.”
