A local Fox News affiliate in Cincinnati, Fox 19, is
reporting that as many as four IRS employees in the agency's Cincinnati office have been identified as having a role in the developing scandal involving the targeting of conservative groups for added scrutiny. According to Fox 19's Ben Swann, the agency acknowledged on Wednesday that two employees of the local office had been pinpointed for their role in the scandal and are facing disciplinary action or more. Swann reports that one of his sources say the employees were merely taking orders from their bosses.
Prior to his resignation, Steven Miller called the two Cincinnati employees 'rogue' and 'off the reservation,' adding that they were 'overly aggressive' in handling the requests from those conservative groups over the past two years.
Miller also added that those two employees have already been 'disciplined' by the agency.
However, despite the claim of just two employees being involved, FOX19 has exclusively learned from two separate sources that there could be at least four Cincinnati employees involved.
Those four employees, whose names we have chosen to withhold until they have been officially confirmed, have each worked in the IRS Exempt Organizations Department.
Swann notes in his report that Lois Lerner, the person who ran the exempt organizations department, learned nearly two years ago that employees within the agency were targeting groups with "Tea Party", "Patriot" or "9/12 Project" in their names. Swann reports that at least two Cincinnati office employees have been subpoenaed to testify before Congress on Monday.
