Justice Prevails: Zimmerman Found Not Guilty

A six-member jury comprised of all women found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin. The jurors had the choice of finding him guilty of second degree murder, guilty of manslaughter or not guilty by reason of self-defense. The jurors' decision matches the evidence heard by the jurors. Let's pray that the verdict is accepted by the public and no violence erupts due to the racial tensions caused by this entire ordeal.

There is justice? That judge can run roughshod over a defendant, putting him at risk of decades in jail, and it's "justice" that he's not guilty? Hardly.

It's "justice" that a state can use the full power and resources of the government to bring a political prosecution? Again, hardly.

This case has eroded faith in the American legal system. Zimmerman escaped, and good for him, but as a consequence of this case, the government gained power and our rights receded.

I'm reacting to the jurors' decision, not the actions of the prosecutor and judge in this case. I think Alan Dershowitz is correct in asking that severe disciplinary action be taken against the prosecutors in this case, who incidentally filed a complaint against him with his bosses at Harvard Law School after he criticized her handling of the case. I hope the judge does the right thing now and imposes harsh sanctions against the prosecutors for their serious discovery violations in this case.
